No need to panic just yet Leaf Nation. End of August things will ramp up again. By training camp all the dominoes will fall into place and it will be the start of a successful season. This summer was a big step in the right direction. Its only going to be better from here on. Think positive!!!

Just think. Were not even entitled to battle out 5 wildcard spots with everyone else anymore. We only have to be better than Montreal,Ottawa,Tampa,Buffalo and Florida and were guarenteed a playoff spot.

No problem! Let's gooooo!

yup.

sometimes people tend to forget that July is the players summer vacation. Not like they are sitting in Toronto wanting to negotiate every day. Talks will heat up again once the informal workouts get going regularly.

Gunnarsson should have given his number up to Bolland, better yet, he shouldn't even be on the team.

Can't wait until we have Phaneuf/Reilly-Franson/Gardiner as our top 4, once Reilly is ready.

What is the general consensus amongst Leaf's fans regarding Franson? Trade, or keep?

Personally, I would have traded him already. I dont know that his value will ever be higher at his current age combined with the season he had last season.

He is A VERY good player, don't get me wrong. If he can mimic this previous seasons defensively and even put up reasonable offensive numbers, he's still a 3.5-4.5 million dollar d-man by today's standards.

But his stats this past season were a little ridiculous. I highly doubt he can sustain anything close to that over the long term. Again, I'm not saying he's bad. He's very good offensively and incredibly under-rated defensively.

But again, because he's still very young and has show continual improvement combined with his numbers this past season, I don't know that there will ever be a better time to move him and receive the best possible package in return.

Realistically, the blue-line long term includes, what? Gunner, Reilly, Gardiner, possibly Fraser and/or Phaneuf, and hopefully one of (if not both of) Blacker and Percy? Where does Franson fit in long term?

I would demand a 1st round pick and a player.

That'd be one dangerous top 4 while the 3rd pairing we will have the more defensive defense men signed to appropriate contracts

Franson is a right handed defender which we don't have enough of, he is long term material.

Keep. Liles or Gunnarsson should be traded way before Franson.

I can see in the future fraser, ranger, gunner, liles all gone and the top 4 consisting of what you said with the 3rd pairing being like a mix up of blacker, granberg, percy ... while i can see matt finn being traded.

We will have 7 defenders always so i can see phaneuf, gardiner, franson, rielly, granberg, percy, blacker being apart of that group.

Our breakdown would probably look like this

Keepers
Jake Gardiner
Cody Franson

On the fritz

Everyone else on our current roster, except Carl Gunnarsson. But even with Gunnarsson's 3 year deal, there's no guarentee he plays the full deal in Toronto

Prospects that are almost ready
Morgan Rielly
Stuart Percy
Jesse Blacker
Petter Granberg

Even more prospects
Matt Finn
Tom Nilsson
Andrew MacWilliam
Viktor Loov

it's a running joke on here actually.

But I thought you might want to show the kid some respect and learn to spell his name correctly.
