There is and was nothing to not love about Sully. One of my all time favorite athletes. Go be great at your next thing too.

What a great player and person.

I can say that I was lucky as a fan to root for him nightly at Bridgestone. Would love to see him join the Preds front office.

Excellent blog and tribute, Paul. One of the things I remember about Sully's first game with the Preds was Poile going into the media room between the 2nd and 3rd periods. Normally he does this without much fanfare, but that night everyone standing in the concourse and concession area outside of section 310 spontaneously broke out in applause and cheers. Poile acknowledged the appreciative crowd with an awkward smile and short wave of the hand.

Sully is and will always be, not just one of my favorite Predators, but one of my favorite athletes. I hope that someday soon the Predators can find a spot for him in the organization. Also, if he does decide to retire, I would love to see him sign a one day contact with Nashville and retire as a Predator.

It is unfortunate that his only season as a Pen ended on such a sour note - the team losing in embarrassing fashion in the playoffs. He was definitely one guy I would have loved to see hoist the Cup. Great player, and from the looks of it a great person.

Sully exudes CLASS. Obviously undersized in stature but with the heart of a giant!!!! Wish some of these larger framed guys would have half the heart.

What about a 3rd member of the TV team? He and Crispy worked well those times they were together when Steve was rehabbing. He knows the game so well, he has to be in the organization in some capacity.

Nicely done Paul and great comments from others here who have already expressed their sentiments. I'll second them all.

Maybe he'll yet be a part of this team and this town.

Not neccesarily a household name but definitely a great player. He always tore it up against the Sharks too.

Watching Steve Sullivan play was worth the price of the ticket for sure. He had such passion and a big heart. I too, wish he could retire as a Predator.

Preds fans, what happened with Blum? I was really surprised to see him on the Wild's roster the other day since the Preds took him in the 1st round a couple years back. Was he not playing well or was it just a logjam.

Depends on who you ask.

Yes. (Best answer I have to your questions.)

Maybe he can still turn into a serviceable defensive NHL player but the 1-yr, 2-way contract with the Wild at or near minimum doesn't indicate much confidence in that occurring.

I hope he does retire a Pred. Always loved watching the guy play. Too bad his year in pittsburgh was the year that Sid missed most of. I think he and sully could have had some real good chemistry. And just wondering if anyone thinks sully is deserving of having his number retired? And if not is there anyone who could receive the honor anytime soon. Obviously if Weber stays for his whole contract he will. But is there anyone else? Only real candidates I can think of are Vokoun and Timonen. I'd almost say Kariya too because his numbers in nashville were great and he marked a real turning point for the franchise but his time in nashville was just too short.

That never made any sense to me. Why place him on waivers after only a few bad games? No worries though, at least they got Khristich lol.

740+ career points is pretty impressive.

Some people think Legwand will get his number retired simply because he is an original Predator and was their first draft pick. I really hope the Preds' standards aren't that low.

For me personally, the only ones I can see getting their numbers retired are Weber, Rinne and possibly Sullivan even though Sully never won the Cup. He was still the first Predator to ever win a major award, and the fact that he got that award was nearly miraculous. I don't know if that alone is enough to hang his number from the rafters, but I would think Weber and Rinne are automatics if they stay with the team. Hell, they'll probably get statues.

It does depend on who you ask. I'm in the minority, but I think Blum got a bit of a raw deal here. Trotz is a 'my way or the highway' kind of guy, and the Preds aren't really known for their patience (except with Sullivan). Blum stated that he wasn't allowed to play his game. A change of scenery might be just what he needs. I still think he'll turn out to be a real good defenseman.

Ahh, I see, thanks for that. I'm a big Preds fan, I'm from up north but I've got a lot of family down there and there's hardly anyone to talk Preds with up here obviously lol.

I don't know how I feel about the term on a lot of these deals this summer. I like Stalberg because of what he brings, but idk about 4 years for Nystrom and Hendricks. I think they might get crowded up front with kids like Forsberg and Watson looking for time during their development. I've got really high hopes for both of those two so I was disappointed with some of these signings. I think it might hurt the kids' chances of getting their time in the lineup.

Edit: I still want to see more of what Bourque can do! I hope he's not waived since we have a lot of forwards under contract now.
