Vaneks an interesting case. always comes out of the gate like a house on fire, then slows down to an eventual dead halt. He's still a very good player, but needs a little more drive I think.

I think it's a mistake to trade Vanek, some agree and some don't agree and that's ok but, they aren't showing Vanek this will be a short rebuild and I haven't seen a rebuild that has been done in a short amount of time. Strange, when Pegula spoke 3 years ago you would have thought we were way past a rebuild.

He made 49 million the last contract.I'm sure he is just sitting back and enjoying his off season. Wouldn't you ?

Looking back as to why Vanek makes as much as he does....thank the Oilers for the offer sheet given to him in which the Sabres had no choice but to match.
Also looking back now... think of how we'd look if letting him go then and obtaining 4 first round picks the oilers would have to give....We'd be an awesome team as to where their first-rounders would be situated

That's such an outdated and awful argument. There's no guarantee that all those picks are that good (3 1st overall picks).

What's to say that those picks don't end up being Tedenby, Paajarvi, Niederreiter and Scheifele? Instead of Hall, Eberle, Nugent Hopkins ?

Pegula had no idea what he was really getting into. His complete lack of understanding of how professional sports really works is showing.

I will say that he is at least interested unlike the Anaheim owners. It makes me sad when I go to games here compared to Buffalo. The experience is minimal. They need to invest in the team (and spend more because they like to keep a buffer in salary it seems) and the experience for fans.

It's such a waste of effort. It's a total cop out too. Whose says the Oilers get the lottery picks with Vanek on the team. Maybe they actually build up the blue line and they make the playoffs. For something that happened 6 years ago it's time for people to let it go.
