Don't worry Sid, the Olympics won't be nearly as physical. You can do your stuff there! |

Not even sure why they would ask him about a punch in the face. Just a stupid question to ask. He is right stuff like that happens all the time. No biggie you play thru it. If he was concerned about it he would have kept that cage on. |

I hear when asked for comment, Chara said, " It's comedy to me to be honest with you. They're probably involved in that stuff more than any team in the league and they're the ones always talking about it. I guess I'm not apologetic. I was trying to win a faceoff game and if I caught his wrist face, then I caught his wrist face. He seemed to play okay so I couldn't have hurt him that bad."

People that talk about Sid shying away from physical play obviously don't watch him play. Being jealous is one thing, being grossly misinformed is another. |

Agree 100%.
He's often in the middle of scrums and I distinctly remember a hit he laid on Daniel Alfredsson in the 10' playoffs. |

All his critics think he whines about it , but in truth he gives straight forward answers and never complains , he can't ever say the right thing no matter what , and he doesn't bring it up the reporters do. |

Good blog.....Been traveling a lot but I was interested in your blog a few days ago about the Pens new training facility. Anyone know the status of Bladerunners Cranberry? It was for sale for a few yrs, I think a church tried to buy it at one point. But last time I was in Pitt the status of most of the rinks was pretty bad. Bladerunners have always been a bit of a mess financially. Bethal Park owns a share in their rink, and Neville had to be sold to RMU. I imagine the new facility would sink bladerunners.
Any idea when the shedule comes out? |

Not sure if it is still Bladerunners but there is still a rink in Cranberry. I don't think the NHL has an idea when the Sched is coming out. Could be today |

The schedule has already been set, just not released because the NHL is waiting on the IIHF to announce the NHL's participation in the Olympics. Florida's schedule has been leaked and it has around a 20 day break in there for the Olympics. It will be out perhaps as early as today, who knows though.
As far as your other questions, I will have to rely on the other posters for the answers to that. I unfortunately do not know the Pittsburgh area because I do not live there. |

“It is playoff hockey,” says Crosby. “At the end of the day, we didn’t score. I don`t think it had anything to do with the physical play. If anything, I think we did a pretty good job of imitating that. Maybe we were more physical than they were at certain points. We didn’t score. It`s something that we`ve turned the page, we`ll learn from it, nothing we can do now.” - Ryan_Wilson
Without trying to come off as a basher, isn't this the same exact thing that happened in 11/12 versus the Flyers? They tried to play the style of their opponent instead of their style, and it took away their strengths. |

Yes that was definitely the issue. I think they understand that now. |

I think the wheels came off a bit more in terms of discipline against the Flyers. Against Boston, it was more playing a game other than the one they succeeded with. There's a comparison to be made, though. |

Exactly... If he gets asked a question and says "no comment" the haters will call him an as*hole because he refuses to answer a question. It's ridiculous really.
Saw an interview with him on the news last night... Looks like he's got some new bottom teeth, but you can tell his jaw is different. That injury was traumatic. I wonder how all the haters would feel about taking a punch to that jaw by a 6'8" monster? |

I wouldn't want to take a punch to any jaw from a 6"8 man. |

He should have left the shield on for the whole playoffs. He wasn't nearly as noticable out there after Chara popped him. |

I think the whole thing was overblown, honestly. Chara is doing everything in his power to win a hockey game. If you can hurt the other team's best player by punching him in a recently-repaird jaw, you do it. And as a hockey player, you're expected to take it and play through it. Both did. Not a huge story. |

I agree. He probably didn't like the shield, but as much as you can try, you're bound to be A BIT gunshy without it on. You can try with all of your heart to play the same, but your head won't let you be as reckless. |

But we're all still going to use it as a chance to sling the 'whiner' label, regardless of whatever details. |
