This has been my favourite off-season move to date:

2. Extend G
3. Bryz gone

I'm glad to see Hexy back. Another good hockey mind in the organization is never a bad thing and I have no problem with Hexy as heir apparent for the GM spot. My question is: Is Don Luce still with the club, and if so what is his role now? Also is John Paddock going to continue as an assistant coach or is he returning to the front office?

It certainly beats last summer, that's for sure. So far I would give the Flyers offseason a solid B+.

Random news this morning, Jagr put a video out on facebook (In czech ) about his future in the nhl. I asked my friend to translate it for me (he is from the czech republic) and he said Jagr is pretty much going to retire from the nhl.

I would like to hear what moves Hexy was a part of for LA. And about the respect level of other GMs around the league. Not saying it is a bad move. But I have little facts to get excited about right now. I liked him as a player, as a GM I would like to see his resume. I can understand the idea that there is an expiration date on everything and Homer's agreesive style could quicken his. Having a backup, transition, plan is a great idea. Would like to hear more about Hexys GM abilities though if anyone knows them.

But, all have different skill sets. It is no secret that the Flyers potential has been comprised by inferior goaltending. The arrangement will be a success if Hextall does nothing other than improve the goaltending options for the Flyers. Clearly the Kings figured out how to draft and develop goalies.

I'm now thinking it would be good karma to bring Gagne back.

Happy to see him back!

I'm interested to know why he left LA and wasn't he still under contract to them as Asst. GM?

Did he have to ask permission to go or was there a deal made? I think LA still owes us 'Future considerations' for JR deal.

Do you think he'd take a severe paycut (maybe $1.5M) for one last season?

I translated some of the comments with google (It's horrible but you can still get a general idea of what the person is saying usually), and people seem to not be saying stuff like "what a great career we'll love you forever you're a legend" type stuff, and more like "you can still play the pens would have you, the devils would have you, the KHL would have you; we'd like to see you come back and play in the Czech Republic" type stuff. So to me it looks more like he's just contemplating retirement because he's not getting enough interest from teams that he thinks can win, and all he wants to do is win it all now. His options are, what? Carolina and New Jersey? I thought negotiations with the Habs went dry. He'll either have to take a pay cut and a role cut on a cup contending team, or be happy in retirement or the KHL.

And he really would fit well on the 3rd line. I'd like to give McGinn a starting role, cause like someone in here said a couple blogs ago, McGinn to us is very close to what Simmonds was to LA in his first few seasons, but there's a place for him on our 4th energy line.

are we really that sour on homer? I think he's done a fairly nice job and made some hard but sound decisions. My only knock on homer is his penchant for signing garbage FAs to fill out the pro roster (lilja, gervais, foster, leighton, shelly, etc). His resume of big trades have been pretty good for the flyers (Richie, Carts, Pronger, Coburn, JVR, Leino, Carle, Hartnell, Timonen), his UFA signings solid (Lecavalier, Streit, Briere, Meszaros, Talbot, Jagr), and I liked the OS to Weber even though the flyers didn't get him in the end. He's shown patience with the young talent on the team. Really his only big mishaps were bobrovsky (who I'm not sold on yet) and Bryz which he gave up nothing to get and is a non-issue because he moved to correct the mistake.

I'm in no hurry to have homer fired.

well Lombardi did win a cup last year and has put together a nice team. Perhaps Hexy feels its in his best interest to move on in his hopes to land a GM job somewhere?

Nothing to do with the current-day Flyers, but if you could have seen a guy like Berube really tune a pest up, who would it be?

Igor Ulanov (Lindros got him at the end of the series)
Darius Kasparitis (I think Forbes, maybe, whooped him)
Matthew Barnaby
Sean Avery
other?

As much as I hate Kasparitis (yes, I booed him at the alumni game, and was hoping Lindros would beat him blind), I really would have loved to have seen Barnaby take a severe beating. Chief is the kind of guy who would beat the hell out of you, pick you up, and punch you some more.
