So seriously, do you think the Oilers (at the moment) can finish in the top three of the new Conference? Or at least challenge for a wild card spot? |

My friend in Denver got to deliver some sporting goods to Patrick Roy's new condo. It's full of new furniture and crap. I'm insanely jealous. |

Not remotely. The Oilers will be fighting for a playoff spot, though. Much better team than last season. |

And that's not too much of a slight to them. The top three teams in our conference are perhaps the best top 3 in the league, and there will be at least one team who misses in our conference that could have made it in others. |

True considering they never got eliminated from playoff contention until two weeks left in the season. At one point they were sitting 8th later in the season. |

The leafs have no interest in hemsky.
Pending lots of injuries... maybe, but even then he'd have to come free. Jones i could see |

I don't like the idea of signing Penner, but by now I've spoken my piece. For all his size, and I'll admit decent hands, I'd prefer a more stalwart defender at 3LW, and that's setting aside the poor fit with the team philosophy.
Bogosian, on the other hand, is a persistent rumour I'm always a fan of. A guy like that, who plays an utterly uncreative but fairly effective puck-moving game, is exactly the kind of player the oil need. He makes big hits and gets a lot of pucks deep and/or on net. In that sense, he's like Dion Phaneuf except not a jag. |

8th place and then they lost 9 of the next 10 in crunch time and finished 12th.
They really werent close to a playoff team
With no more additions, this team needs alot to go right to get in.
They need another quality piece imo |

Isn't stafford like Dustin Penner (east coast version) except not UFA but a large 3 year disappointing contract. Blah |

Rather the 5 mil in cap space in the offseason than an extra year of stafford |

IF the troubles in re-signing our respective RFAs persist, maybe a deal surrounding Bogosian and Gagner?
Then - sigh - sign Grabovski. Hemsky for stafford blah blah blah

I think it's a long shot at best, still not deep enough down the middle. But what do I know. |

agreed. more centre depth and another good bottom 6 winger. |

Lindros was "the best player" in those few seasons when he was the tallest 14-15 year old kid on the ice. Too bad he couldn't shake those bad habits he had then, like skating with his head down. And his parents probably told him they would get him in the Hall of Fame, no problem! |

Hey Ricky Boy, of Kessel, Lupul, JVR or Clarkson who does Hemsky replace in the top 6?
Why do you think there hasn't been a trade yet? Nobody wants him. Soft players who at the very least don't light it up aren't welcome on Carlyle's team. |

That's why I like your thoughts on getting bogosian. But not for gagner. Unless of course he finishes arbitration. But then I doubt he has any trade value. |

Well he replaces Lupul when he is injured, Kessel when he checks out, and Clarkson when he can't live up to the $ |

St. Louis newspapers and media absolutely slamming David Perron over the last couple of days. Whatever. Hey, maybe they're right. He wouldn't be the first or the last guy to get into arguments with their employer over philosophy. How many times have I been fired in my lifetime, and look at what a great guy I am. Completely stable
I'd highly recommend ignoring that. There are certain people in the St. Louis media who comment on hockey when it has a big story or they want to criticize the team & it's fans, but otherwise just cover baseball and football. Most Blues fans I know don't take what they say very seriously. To be fair, those people were critical of Perron and his attitude prior to the trade. But... they aren't hockey people.
Jeremy Rutherford puts out quality stuff for the Blues... Andy Strickland sensationalizes his stuff a bit in my opinion, but is also well informed. The people criticizing Perron like Bernie Miklasz aren't opinions worth Oiler's fans being concerned over. |
