Jagr 1 year deal? It would make good sense. He had a good season last year. It would enable us to transition to next year's powerful group of FAs with more offense this season.

What was Kovy's cap hit?
If he did this a month ago perhaps Clarkson would still be a Devil as well...

I'm pretty sure Lou didn't want to pay what Clarkson received, wasn't worth it.

Possible but I think they'd have let him go.

Jagr isn't the answer. he is old. He blew in the post season too. Damien Brunner is the answer. If Lou can sign him 3 years at 3mill per. That would be awesome. He already denied the Wings offer to him. It was a short team deal...maybe abother 1 or 2 year deal. I want Brunner (Vanek would be nice but we have no trading chips), Morrow, or at least Raymond.

Kovalchuk broke his commitment with the team, but Lamoriello isn't about to do the same.

You can bet on that.
Loved this and absolutely true...in Lou we trust.

Great write up Todd made me feel a little bit better as did Lou's comments. Real tough to swallow this leaves a real bitter taste in my mouth. But alas life aint fair it goes on. Stevens and Niedermayer where way more important to the team and we did alright after them. This season just a whole lot more interesting though that's for sure. Brunner i feel is a must only 27 years old had a decent season with the wings. Not gonna replace but will no doubt help.

Yea Clarkson's contract is a joke. They'll be crying when he only puts up 30-40pts a season for 5.5million lol

You have chips, you have Bocuher, Matteau and Merill, but that's the future core of your franchise. Doubt LL will give those kids up for a rental in Vanek.

Yeah I'm sure all the top UFA's are going to be fighting over each other to be the first one to sign with a broke franchise lead by Michael Ryder I love it all the years that us Islander fans had to put up with you trolls and now the Isles are on the rise and the devils are broke and sputtering. At least you'll have a top 5 pick next year... Oh wait

Kovalchuk is breaking a long-term commitment to walk away from the Devils and the city of New Jersey.

May want to check this one. Either city of Newark, or STATE of NJ

Great read Todd, and you're right Lou isn't going to break his commitment to the team. He's not going to dwell on the loss today and I bet he's making phone calls today about either trade or free agents. Would love to see Brunner become a devil

Exactly, I don't want to trade for Vanek unless an extension is involved.

Would at least help the PP. No one can run a PP from the sideboards the way Jagr does. He's just so slow now really wanted to get faster this year not slower. But whatever we already brought in Clowe...

Yup, broke franchise.... added Schneider (4 mill), Ryder (3.5), Clowe (4.8), Olesz (1 mill). Resigned Elias (5.5), Zubs (3.1), Zid (4). Yup broke franchise on our way to the bottom. Please make the playoffs more than once out of every 6 years. Thanks.

You know, I legitimately have no issues with the Islanders, was rooting for them in the playoffs, am sort of happy to see them get better...

And that gets close to changing everytime I come on HockeyBuzz.
