Ill say it once and Ill say it again. I love Franzy but I think his time on the island is coming to an end. We have too much depth up the middle and hes not a 2nd line center. Package him in a deal for a real number one goalie or solid defesive dman.

Who are we packaging him with to get such a player, if not Strome? Those kind of players don't come cheap- if we DO get a top end defenseman, for one example, you can kiss Reinhart goodbye, unless someone hires Milbury as their GM, and Snow trades with him. I'm just saying....the vast majority of our KNOWN talent is worth far more to us than it would be in a trade scenario.

Nielsen is a 3rd line center, and likely would be a d*mned good one, if given that role. The problem I have when I see line combos (not just yours, a lot of people have done this, and it is puzzling to me) is this: for the last two and a half months of last season, Nielsen with Okposo and Bailey was our best line BY FAR....BY FAR- dominant in ways I haven't seen from an Islanders forward line since the early 1980's. In contrast, JT always seemed to be out there by himself, the other "scoring line" was the kind of line we used to have when our team blew chunks every year, and the fourth line was solid....but it's line four. The point is why would anyone f**k with Nielsen's line, until that success stops being the case?

Here's what I see this year, if Strome and Nelson make the team:

Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck

The good thing is that these are four lines you can roll; it's not like this fourth line is going to get the short end of the stick- the potential addition of Nelson and Strome to go along with Bouchard significantly upgrades the offensive potential up front, which was already solid, and Clutterbuck rounds out a fearsome line four. The thing we also have to remember is that IF Strome makes the team, unlike in past years, he won't be expected to be "king of the stupid" at age 20, as were Bailey and JT. He should be able to fly a little bit under the radar and learn. As I said to my friend yesterday, if we had half the depth on defense that we do up front, we'd be in contention for the hardware.

That said, I keep thinking Grabner is the odd man out here, for whatever reason....just a gut feeling, mostly because it sounds like he's in "Chateau Bow-wow de Capuano". Hopefully we can get a SERVICEABLE, veteran defenseman for him (you're not getting top end anything for anyone straight up off this roster, other than Tavares). As for the D and the net, right now.....and may I add .....

It's rather obvious that we NEED a defenseman. I always liked Hainsey, but even with his size, he's not the guy we need in front of the net- he's more like Streit than someone who is 6'3" and over 200 pounds. Other than that, I got nothing right now, but I'm not the guy I'm paying with my season ticket money to figure that out. I just know that unless Donovan and de Haan come in and dominate from day one (and de Haan manages to stay out of the back of an ambulance), he's going to have to do SOMETHING about that situation.

There are so many good prospects that eventually the isles will have no choice to trade players. There arent enough roster spots for everyone. My guess is Frans, Grabs are most likely to go, and if Bailey doesn't sign, he might be on that list too. Could get good returns for those guys too.
