I hope you aren't too far off. It may be something tiered that equals what you mentioned. Maybe something like 5 years 3.5 mil first 2, middle 4 mil, and the last 2 4.5 mil. I almost expect his cap hit to replace Pitkanen's though. It would nice to see us not overpay for a player.

I'll take July 25th, 6 years, 4M per. That would buy a few of his UFA years.

Of course JR should try to lock him up for 8 years, but that might cost 4.5-5M per year for him to give up that many UFA years.

If I'm JR I make 3 offers - one at 3 years for 3-3.5M AAV...then he is a RFA again at the end of the deal. one at 6 years / 4M AAV, & one at 8 years at 4.5-5M AAV.

This makes the most sense to me! If he continues to improve THEN the next contract can be bigger, but keep the CAP reasonable for a few more years!
5 years is plenty..

That would be my guess as well. I believe he needs to be locked up long term with no less than a 5 year deal.
