Cool article Todd.

I know a lot has been said about Poiriers second half, but I think a big part of that was his play during the QMJHL playoffs so they wouldn't really show up in this report. Not only that but I don't believe he had a lot of scoring support either, might help explain his total PP numbers as he wasn't surrounded by a lot of skill it doesn't look like.

Thanks! It took a good chunk of time so I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It's true, playoff stats didn't show up in this report and his 10 points in 10 games is solid. That said, given he was over a point per game player in the regular season it shouldn't come as a surprise nor be enough to fully explain him flying up their lists.

Regarding him not having a lot of talent on his team, he made it into the 2nd round of the playoffs so he certainly had some talent around him. A lot more than Monahan, anyways.

Thanks for reading/commenting!

The more I investigate Poirier the more I like him. That being said seeing Shinkaruk in a Van jersey for the next 10/15 years could be rough.

Ya I hear ya....but you know what, there were a lot of other teams that passed up on him too, so I don't feel so bad about it. Poirier is very interesting, and i'm glad to see that he has been invited to the world junior camp. I'd love to see him play because I never have.

Also, one more comment to Todd, I know that Poirier's numbers during the playoffs don't stand out but obviously the competition is stiffer. I have also heard he was going toe-to-toe with both MacKinnon and Drouin during their series vs Halifax. Obviously the better team prevailed but still good to hear comments like that!

It'll take a lot by Poirier to convince me that Feaster didn't botch up the draft by passing on Hunter S.

Haters gonna hate.

And why did 10 to 12 other teams pass on him as well?

Having witnessed Hunter grow up (he grew up in my area of Calgary), and knowing his dad, I am not upset in the least. He has a serious attitude issue and that's the last thing a young team is going to need going forward. I'm excited to watch Poirier, clips of his play definitely portray some serious wheels.

Seriously....he didn't even go with the 23rd pick either, Washington's scouts may be worse than Calgary's!

why because the guys on TSN who cant get NHL jobs think he is a good player, seriously...why even have a draft just hand the players out by rankings

Maybe all these teams have a no a-holes policy and Hunter didn't pass that condition. On the other hand, he'll fit right in with the Canucks.

Either Poirier has to be great or if Hunter turns into a flop I won't blame Feaster for the pick.

Somebody is a little butt hurt... The TSN guys are paid to analyze and give there opinions, Bob Mackenzie asks scouts around the league and complies a list based on that. I see your point, but you don't make fun of TSN (unless it's Button or Ferraro) and you especially don't make fun of the God Father of hockey Analysis!

Also, anybody planning on going to the development camps? would really like to hear some first hand impressions on some of the guys, especially the guys on try outs.

If I've learned anything over the years it's that junior point totals mean squat.

seriously? I'm not making fun of anyone except people that just assume teams should draft by the rankings. If you are gonna do that save some money and fire all your scouts
