I didn't think Jags had any love for western teams. Not that any eastern teams want him right now... |

Richard Cloutier: Penner, Jagr, Raymond, 2nd Line LW and MacT: Some Clarification - Maxbone
I don't think MacT brings back Penner simply to 'make good on promises'.
As long as there are players out there that could fit, UFA season isn't over.
It feels like something is coming. Although in the mean time ponder that moving out Hemsky and Horcoff has been so long threatened but never carried out that to finally pull the trigger on those moves is, in its own way, bold. |

Why was Penner so upset with the timing of his trade from Edmonton? |

I wonder what you make of the Kelly/Marchand rumour. - Morris
Is Kelly Marchand cute? |

Most Oilers fans I've spoken to are mildly disappointed at the current state of affairs. Almost no one thinks MacT has done anything close to bold.
Fans are notoriously stupid and impatient. Thats why theyre fans and not GMs. If the fans ran this franchise it would make the last few years look fun. |

Sign Damien Brunner to play on the top six, his skill level is off the charts. |

I say do it, people always talk about how it looks bad and you run the risk of your RFAs being offer sheeted. I have yet to see 1 retaliatory offer sheet from a team. If you can land AP why not try. |

Here's what I think is going to happen. There are a number of teams in serious cap trouble.
Just look at Philly. Already over the cap though that'll go down with Pronger's continued injury status ($5 million in cap space). But that will still leave them with about $4 million and they still don't have a starter in goal.
Boston is another team right up there and they still have Rask to re-sign. Yes they're $5 million left but what kind of contract is Rask asking for? Someone in the previous blog was saying over $7 million per year. Ouch
St. Louis while not up against the cap, I seem to recall reading that they have an internal cap number. Alex Pietrangelo just seems ripe for an offer sheet. Not saying we should do one but the threat of one could be enough to get us an favourable terms in a trade.
Any of these teams that crammed up against the cap are only going to get more desperate as the summer goes on. They'll be forced to do the cheap trade to get cap space. And we still have space and can spend to the cap. |

Seriously? This getting annoying. This bold move crap...7 new players and a coaching change is pretty bold if you ask me.I think everyone misinterperated bolds for an 05-06 Pronger like trade. Blowing our loads for an Evander Kane, or Chris Stewart ot offer sheeting Pietrangelo...none of that is necessary.
Here's an idea, why don't we just overpay for the first big name to come along and make sure he's locked up for a good 5-7 years. That way, if the chemistry isn't right and we have no cap space we'll be good and screwed. Then next year or the year after when the right player is available by free agency we can all sit around and female dog because we blew all our cap space.
Relax people. There are sensible, short term, low cost options to fill in the LW and 3RW spots. We still have an option in Hemsky , as a roster player or a trade piece.
Do I expect this team to make the playoff's? No. Are we better? Hells yes!
