kanzigs the head scratcher for me. I like his size. But high up for a enforcer
I really liked hunter when I saw him play a few things. but if the comments about him not wanting to be on a team on a downward slope are true, its probably a good move to pass on him.
Bummer we didn't get a shot at morrisey and I would have liked hartman as our 28th....but I could have gone either way.
Good first round. the fact that we got monahan is enough for me on that one.
I'm more bummed that clutterbuck isn't coming here, but great trade for NYI. |

Todd Cordell: Calgary Flames: Draft Was Good, Not Great - Todd-Cordell
I would have like us to grab Hartman or Hagg at #28 & I would have leaned toward Shinkaruk at 22 myself, but its over. It could be worse. I expected way more wheeling & dealing for some of the picks from 5-20. Bit of a let down. Was really hoping Flames would have tried to get another top 10 pick. Now I guess the 2nd part of this anticipation is what they do with this short window of Cap Space verses Free Agency & what the trading is going to look like. Really interested to see if we cough up Backlund & Gaudreau for Seguin. That makes me swallow hard but not necessarily upset if we were to do that. |

Bad attitude, there' s a reason why he was passed up by more teams than the Flames. His stock dropped after the combine.
I'm not 100% on the Poirier pick but I'm not a huge fan of Shinkaruk either. |

can't wait for someone to actually get info on harrison. Kind of spooky that in the days of the internet there's nothing on this guy.
I think feaster may have watched a disney sports movie or something before putting this guy on the list. |

Exactly. Could've gotten some potential top-6 forwards or top-4 D but they go with a no upside 3rd pairing (if that) enforcer. |

ya, hartman was my sore spot.
losing gaudreau scares me, I don't want to go through another stlouis scenario...maybe they'll take granlund instead or Horvak. |

I agree, I'm 99 .99% sure all he'll be is an enforcer if that....but for anyone who remembers watching Chara with the Prince George Cougars would probably say the same thing. So I guess there's a 0.01% chance of getting a Chara
Really though what a waste of a pick, sure he could be had with the last pick or even signed undrafted. |

my only hope...this wakes Breen up. If that guy would stop hugging puppies he'd be a solid defender.

I was happy with the first round and Roy other than that it's meh and I think our 3rd rounder was a waste.
When I heard Poirier picked at 22 I was initially ticked and was thinking the same he could easily be had at 28. I admit I'm not too familiar with him but now from learning a bit about him, I'm warming up to it a bit and have a feeling Montreal would have grabbed him at 25 so if the scouts liked him that much they had to grab him.
I really like the Klimchuck pick, I think he will turn out to be solid. |

After reading some stuff on poirier I'm not upset I think he will be in our top six, come time. Remember this draft resembles the 2003 which had guys like Brent burns, mike Richards, Ryan Kesler, and Corey perry all go in picks 20-30. Poirer has lots of upside and is already 6'1. By the time he's done growing he could be 6'3. I would not mind having a 6'3 foreward with speed that can score |

It's because he played for a high school prep team. Not much scouting at that level. The Flames must think they have an inside track on him. |

If you watch the highlights on Poirier, he can absolutely fly. He is said to be one of the fastest guys available and he can score. Not like he's a college kid either, from the QMJHL. And you get a similar player (and hometown boy) to Shinkaruk in Klimchuk. As for the other picks i'm not really disappointed because after the second round its kind of a crap shoot anyways. No guarantee any of those players will have a big impact. I think Feaster did a good job and I gotta respect him for not caving and sticking to the list they had. Obviously there is a reason they had Poirier higher up than Shinkaruk and i'll have to trust they made the right decision. I mean hey, at least we didn't trade a franchise goalie for the 9th overall pick... |

This draft had John Weisbrod all over it. Taking chances on players who have tons of potential are his specialty. Sutter's specialty was drafting the best available player who had arguably hit their peak.
I enjoy watching Hunter Shinkaruk play, but while Calgary had already talked about size disadvantage, I'm not surprised that they moved past him. Many can say that Calgary was stupid for moving past him.... but there are also a lot of teams who are in that basket as well.
Hunter now has to prove that the Canucks are not the "idiot team which finally took him" as opposed to the doubting ones who chose otherwise. |

They should take him. I always liked Ballard even though he's had a tough go in Vancouver. Does this mean the Canucks would be picking up half his salary ? |

I think so. I think Calgary can't go wrong with him. EDM fans feel they have plenty of D like him already. Personally, I think they over rate their D considering the stats. |

No... It would mean Calgary pays the full amount. Its Vancouver trying to get out of cap hell for free.
He's not going to get picked up.

I feel like the Tim Harrison pick is like EDM's Aidan Muir pick. (although at least you can find Muir's stats on elite prospects)
Both organizations scouted the player and saw something they really liked. Long term projects. I won't be unhappy with the pick until Muir shows he's not a real prospect |

not really. EDM didn't have too many reaches. Poirier was ranked 70 on some boards. |
