Good read Bill. I always laugh at pundits who place grades on NHL drafts, kids are 17-18 years old. We can look back in 5 years and start to formulate how successful or unsuccessful the draft was.

Regarding Morin, I have no problem with the pick, I honestly can say I haven't seen any of them play and only go by what scouts and other posters who have seen them. The only gripe I have is that he seems like a kid you could have traded back and got (though reports say Montreal was hot for him). I would have preferred Zhardov or Pulock but I can live with the pick.

Also wholeheartedly agree with the 3rd round picks on, just swing for the fences on those picks and hopefully one turns out to be an productive NHLer.

I agree with your opinion on the Flyers' draft. I am hoping they tried to move around and get additional assets.

How would you rate the competition a player faces in Division 1 NCAA hockey as opposed to either the CHL or the USHL?

International Scouting Services ranked Morin as the second most "overrated" prospect in the Draft pool and Hägg as the fourth most overrated. Strangely, ISS also ranked Hägg as the third best offensive defenseman in the Draft, behind only Seth Jones and Josh Morrissey while also rating Hägg's defensive skills as "very good" (on an ascending rating scale of below average, average, good, very good and excellent). I'm not exactly sure how the same scouting service would rate the player so high offensively, praise his defensive upside and then dismiss him as overrated.

Not a fan of the Flyer's draft eh .....I like the Hagg pick in 2nd, would have prefered Pulock over Morin but oh well. And after the 2nd round, all head scratchers but guess we will see in time and from it sounds like a good time from now to see any results.

Bill - what do you think of NJ's first round move to get Schneider?

I thought it was a steal and will mean headaches for Philly for another decade.

I dont mind pickin morin over pulock. Because at the beginning of the season morin was ranked low and then shot up the ranking so they see him as he gonna keep on improving but pulock was ranked where he was and kinda just stayed there if that makes any sense

That was a dumb move on van's part because they got rid of a good goalie and their other good goalie is not happy he tought he was getting out of there

The Hagg pick may end up saving the draft. If the Flyers walk away with two top 4 defenseman in 5-7 years then the draft was successful.

I don't know why the Flyers put so much value on energy guys. They are a dime a dozen. I love Rinaldo, but he isn't irreplaceable.

Hagg was a steal. Apparently Morin can move the puck a bit. I saw video on him and he's an above average skater for ANY size, not just a big guy. He knows what he's doing and he's a mean SOB.

He would be nice but not getting my hopes up, when is the last time the Flyers won on any big/popluar free agents (ones that had multiple interest).

Im right with you on the draft Bill. At first I hated the Morin pick. After settling down and reading more on the kid, I am fine with it, especially since they got Hagg at 41. The Goulbourne pick is just a mind blower to me. No clue what they were thinking with that pick at that time. So many more players with much higher upside than him. I love Zac Rinaldo's game but he is not a player I would take in the 3rd round (high 3rd at that). Even Goulbourne himself was in complete shock that the Flyers drafted him.

Either way, this draft will hinge on Morin and Hagg. If they turn out to be successful the Flyers will be big winners in the draft.

The way I looked at it going in (and I'm no expert, get to see very little of the kids being selected other than NCAA and whatever Junior games are televised) was that most "experts" claimed there were 8 can't miss prospects at the top of the draft, from there it was extremely good through to 25 and there were another 10 that could be considered in that group.

Picking 11 and outisde the top 8 I was hoping for the Flyers to trade up a little or there would be some reaches and the top 8 would slide. Ristilainen and Horvat moved into that top 8 and Nichushlin slid to 10. One spot away. The Flyers couldn't move up.

At 11 and 41 I figured they'd get one excellent pick and one fairly good one. Morin was in the mix in that next level of Defensive prospects. I would have been fine with any one of Hagg, Zadorov, Morrissey, Morin, Mueller or Poluck. The fact that they got two of them made me pretty damn happy.

I was disappointed with pick 72 but who knows. Maybe he tones down the fighting when his junior club needs him to put the puck in the net next season and his game develops.

great stuff, Bill.

As most Flyer fans I was disappointed in our 3rd pick ... and just completely baffled as to why the Flyers don't realize that these type of players are easily available in the later rounds.

I guess I was also disappointed that Homer didn't pull off a trade, but I'm sure by the end of this week we'll have a couple of new FA's on board.

go Flyers.

I'm not giving him 5 years, like he wants.
