The Islanders will move their No. 14 pick for a player who can help right away. #NHLDraft #QMIAgency

nice blog jan.

i doubt this is for PR. sather doesn't care about his image.

as for the cap recapture thing, the cap has the potential to be so big that it will only be a little dent. or richards can deny reporting for training camp and the recapture doesn't effect us. or he could be placed on ltir with a "nagging injury".

whatever happens, it's gonna effect us 6-7 years from now assuming they don't buy him out next offseason so i'm not gonna stress over it. i'm gonna look at the squad and think as highly of it as i can for now and worry about the consequences when we get there, otherwise, we'll be stressing for almost a decade about this.

Its possible to keep everyone, but it would be tight against the cap.

An MDZ trade has to happen to free up some cap room, hopefully its for a first round pick.

That's clearing 2.5 mil only and who are you replacing him with, especially if Staal's eye issue adversely impacts him all year?

Last year, the expectations were ridicolously high, and the Rangers underperformed. I have a feeling this year's going to the opposite, and we will be pleasantly surprised at year's end. I also have a feeling that the Rangers are going to do something relatively big via trade.

I think most of us agree that long term, not buying out Richards is crazy. But, short term, I'm still not convinced the team isn't better with him. Not to mention, if we really like all of these prospects, they are going to get an opportunity to play, because they have lower cap hits. The Rangers, however, are going to need to clean out some brush at the bottom of the roster, populate the 4th line with cheaper alternatives, and still stay in the market for some size and scoring punch on the wing, which may lead to a defensemen getting traded. Still think Staal getting moved to Carolina is a real possibility.

2.5 will give us enough leeway to bring up McIlrath and Miller.

It's for one year. The Rangers and the fans have to grin and bear this year. That;s just the way it is. Buyout Richards next year, the cap goes up and hopefully the UFA class is better.

This is an awful move.

This puts even more pressure on AV's coaching style to get the most out of this roster.

If you are thinking McIlrath is going to step in and be an asset at the pro level, you haven't been watching him too closely in the minors. Kid is not even close to being an NHL defenseman. Not saying he won't in the future, but he is slow and still needs to learn how to compensate for that with his positioning.

Not sure why the Rangers didn't buy out Richards, but I would assume Sather has a big trade in mind. That is good for the Rangers as Sather wins more than he loses in trades

I know exactly what we have in McIlrath, and I wasnt expecting him to step in right away, all I said was it gave us flexibility to use him as a 7th defenseman to see what he has at an NHL level.

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,601,667; BONUSES: $1,650,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $1,348,333

__________________________________________________

Should we trade MDZ, this is what we might be looking at. McIlrath might or might not join the main squad, but without him there were still at about a 1.75 million in salary cap space.

If we trade MZA, would give us about $3 million in cap space. Still not a lot to work with as far as acquiring a legit player.

All I want now is a taker for Pyatt. Not to sign another guy, just to gain a little flexibility.

It wont give us flexibility, its almost necessary if we want to hold onto Clowe.

Clowe was making 3.625 million on his last deal. Doubt he takes a pay cut to 3.2 million. Rangers can't keep him.

He said he would consider taking a cut to stay with the Rangers, so he may. Unlikely though.
