I don't see either of them slipping to 9th. |

Neither do I, but I'm gonna be optimistic until draft day about that happening. |

I'd like to see Calgary pull a "Jankowski" like last year so that it is the Oiler's choice what to do with that pick..... |

I think Shinkaruk might be the pick. Wrote about him in the past: http://bit.ly/18uv4h0 |

You never know with Calgary. They'll probably draft the consensus 25th ranked player 6th overall. |

In Feast we trust.... or he will trade all his picks for something that he cannot get like in the O'Reilly saga. Is there a way this dude can be more stupid? |

....just as long as both are on the board when you guys pick so we can have the other one. I'd be happy with either Lindholm or Monahan.
If one is there I don't see which ever one it is making it past Buffalo. |

I think the Flames are moving up. Feaster has already confirmed that he wants to move and and that he has offered Colorado all 3 of their first round picks for the first overall. I don't expect Colorado to accept that offer but Feaster is making offers to the other teams ahead of the Flames as well. It seems that Jones' stock is falling I wonder how far up the Flames have to move to get him? |

Colorado ain't giving Calgary the time of the day, let alone the first overall. |

Hey Todd, not sure if you read my Q & A that I did with Tod Button for the Calgary Journal, but here's the link. Lots of good insight on how the Flames go about preparing for the draft.

Also, Nic Petan's name has been talked about a lot in the past couple of weeks here is Calgary. I think they take a flyer on him at 22 or 28 if he's there. |

Thanks for sharing. Petan is a good prospect but his lack of size worries me a bit. He's not exactly a great defensive forward, either. From a Flames perspective, I'd rather have someone like Valentin Zykov, Kerby Rychel or Ryan Hartman. |

Todd Cordell: Calgary Flames: Sean Monahan or Elias Lindholm? - Todd-Cordell
Appreciate you chipping in Todd while Colin is drinking wine.
I guess one can expect the piling on that Janko pick last year but at least he was smart enough to trade down to get that pick in the 20's & we also have Seiloff. &you should know we have a decent D prospect in him. Picking off the board in the 20's in a meh draft isn't all that unreasonable. Whatever, pile on. Feasters drafting the last few years has been solid.
I think I would be leaning to Monohan but if it was Lindholm, no one will be disappointed. Please note that Backlund has really stepped up at Centre, his underlying numbers(zone starts, tough comp, corsi) are awesome & he is a solid #2 centre but injuries the last 2 years have prevented him from establishing himself as a #1C. Don't close the book on him. I think Knight is going to get a solid look at #2C this year & Backlund will see #1 ice time. Stajan is a real solid #3 option but I do see Reinhart pushing for his spot this year.
Again thx for covering us, lots happening with the Flames, this will be a huge weekend for this franchise. |

No problem.
His +68 might argue that.
But I get what you're saying. He's not an "A" typical shutdown type guy. |

Thanks! I'm happy to be covering the Flames. Trust me, I'm into advanced stats and use them pretty regularly. You'll see that in the future.
Backlund is developing into a nice player and as you said, he had good underlying numbers last year. He was one of two players, TJ Brodie the other, who was a 50% possession player or better.

I hear you. +68 is ridiculous. It had a lot more to do with his offensive abilities and playing on a powerhouse team than because of his defensive abilities, as you know. |

I'll admit I know nothing about Lidholm, but I cant think of one 1st round pick that came out of the Ottawa 67s that did not become a star in the NHL .... recently Tafolli, Coture, but all the way back to Doug Wilson as well (although he could have been pre-draft)...... you get what I mean though.... |

Welcome aboard Todd. I sure hope if we pick at 6 we take Monahan. I heard some rumour on the radio that Lindholm may elect to stay playing in Sweden. - whipper334
I've seen some rumors about that as well. Not sure if they're true. But as I said in the post, I lean Monahan as well.
And thanks for the welcome! Happy to be here. |
