Yup. Maybe he will tell us how we can get Ryan and Hiller. Or Crosby for Sekera.

They both should be moved. Both miller and Vanek are good players. I would even say Vanek is a great player. BUT, if Buffalo is going to fully commit to a rebuild, re-tool, whatever you want to call it, they are the teams most valuable assets.

Not moving them this offseason, brings the risk of each player walking for nothing, which Buffalo fans are all to familiar with.

100% agree I'd like to see vanek sign an extension and Darcy trade miller for a top six guy a prospect and hopefully a decent first rounder I know it's a stretch but so is a first for Paul gaustad so I can always hope

Ya, makes sense
Keeping either around is just a waste
We won't be competitive again for at least 3yrs
I think in the next 2 drafts we will pick top3 in both

Minute risk. They would be sold off at the trade deadline before they were allowed to just walk.

I am in favor of keeping Vanek unless Darcy can get something really really nice in return. Our power play sucked even with Vanek scoring and taking a beating in front of the net. how bad will it be wtihout him?

Why even take the risk at all, If you are going to be bad next year, be bad. No more of this 9-12th place finishing.

IF we go into this season knowing that we are going to be bad with growing pains of the young guys, I will find it more enjoyable than going into the season with these guys and being below average.

Bad enough to get us a really really good draft pick, which is what we desperately need.

Thing is, with 1 year left to either of them becoming a UFA, returns are not going to be what Garth & Kevin think. With all the hype of this years draft, not sure what next years draft crop looks like but you will get GM's to part with 2014 1st's way easier than this years 1st's. They are both great players & great pieces for next year, but they are at that age where they will be wanting the big payday, long term deals, where these players start to go into their declining years & become contract nightmares halfway through them. I think Buffalo would be wise to max out whatever returns they could get for these players while the returns are decent. Otherwise you get an Iginla or Kipper scenario

Your assuming we will be bad. All of these what ifs, try this one on:

What if the Sabres stock the team with just the kids and they do great... lets say 10th place. What if they do that but just needed one exceptional scorer to get them into the playoffs. Still drafting around the same spot, still no playoffs.....Second verse same as the first.

Then 2 years from now we will want them strip the roster again so we can 'suck?" and possibly get a better draft pick. When does the expulsion of talent end just to get the #1 pick. How long are willing to hold on hope that we suck sooooo bad that we have a the best chance to pick #1..or two.

That is a terrible way to root for a team. If they happen to suck by putting out the best team they can, fine. Don't gut a team hoping you will.

I agree with this completely. No offense but I do not want this to turn into a Calgary situation where it is always talked about, but the trades never actually happen.

I see value wise
Miller - Good/great prospect and a couple of seconds
Vanek - Decent young roster player, Good/great prospect prospect, 2014 1st.

Miller can bring us back a ton right now, I think. He needs a change of scenery anyway. I feel like he would be reinvigorated under another team, plus maybe they'd put a defense in front of him.

Vanek should stay if they can surround him with some talent. He's kind of been the only real star caliber player on this team on offense for years now. It's really sad. If they can't, do the respectful thing and trade him somewhere he can contribute to a winning culture.

If a team with a bunch of kids finishes in 10th I would be thrilled. It means they are learning their way through the NHL and just need time to mature.

I am not hoping that this team sucks. I am coming into realization that what we have now, is not working. Change is needed. Bringing in more veteran players just does not seem to be the smartest move.
