Other free agents include Clarke MacArthur, Tyler Bozak, Ryan Hamilton, Ryan O’Byrne, Mike Kostka, Tim Connolly and Mike Mottau(unrestricted) and Nazem Kadri, Joe Colborne, Frazer McLaren, Mark Fraser, Carl Gunnarsson, Cody Franson, Spencer Abbott, Tyler Brenner, Simon Gysbers and Kevin Marshall(restricted).

Ones in bold for sure, would rather they just have signed McLaren instead of Orr, both are not needed, new division with the exception of the Bruins, is all speed and the way you beat the Bruins is with speed, that fourth line needs to contribute a little more than just fights.

Gunnarsson is left off because I feel he will be way overpaid, if it is a decent cap hit then I would have him as the 5th dman, Bozak is demanding too much for his role.

Too much for Orr but important to resign him. He's learning to be the Shaun Thornton of the Leafs.

It will be interesting to see if UFA's stop not signing with the Leafs now that they made the playoffs and seem to be trending upwards. If they do, they need size and grit up front and size and puck movers on the back end just like everyone else.

The bidding wars are going to be stupid. Look for more trades than usual and more guys not signing until late in the summer for Vokoun like money.

i wouldnt say that, pretty much anyone that can make an nhl team makes 750 k minimum if not a mil
he hits, he intimidates, he fights, holds other teams accountable
well worth the 900 k

not in the context of the current market. you're right. but in general, this league is continuing to kill itself. prepare for a big cap jump in 2014/2015 then another lockout a few years after that. teams know the cap will go up which makes this year's signings even more interesting. i could see a lot of ufas going overseas so they can get more next year.

All the bolded is good!
I know you and I disagree with the Orr & McLaren thing, so Ill leave that one out.

I don't think we need Gunnarsson back all that much.

I would be okay with resigning O'Byrne for a couple years. Cheap and a solid last paring D. But if not, I'm okay with that too.

No comparison. Thornton is much more skilled then Orr.

the one nice thing about orr's new deal is if it turns out that you're right.. and he doesnt work out or there is a better option.. he can be sent to the minors and come off the cap.

personally.. i would of waited to see who could be had this year.. the only reason i do like orr on the team is the lack of toughness in the top 6. so, imo, they need a bodyguard or two of sorts.

if nonis was able to sign some tougher top 6 guy(s), then it negates the need for orr entirely.

a little premature on this signing i think.. but oh well.. he can buried without consequence so i can live with it.

orr actually took a paycut.

and like i mentioned in the other post.. he has a low enough salary to be buried with no cap hit. so.. if it doesnt pan out, or at some point in the next couple season he becomes unecessary... he wont be hard to get rid of.

He's been our #2 for the last 2 seasons. Can't let him go.

He didn't show me anything that leads me to believe we should re-sign him.

His last salary was $2 million - I just think we'd be better off bringing up a kid.

It's okay to disagree with me on the Orr and McLaren thing, I see where people are coming from, my perspective, I rather they sign a tough top 6 winger and balance it out and not have two cement hands on the fourth line, the division next year is all speed, need that fourth line to play a bigger role through the 82 games.

Not quite "no cap hit" but small enough that nobody has to worry about it.

I addressed it in my latest post above, I want that gritty top six forward to balance it out.
