He would be a good fit! The guy flys, but he can frustrate you because his brain, hands and feet can't always keep up with each other. He has tools, so look out if he can finally get them to click. He'd be a nice addition to the Devils!

I don't agree with the impression that he can be signed at a bargain price. It's not as if anyone around the league is unaware of the attributes you listed at length. Even with his minimal ice time he has proven hes a consistent 20 goal scorer.

He'll be rewarded for being buried behind Toews, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, Saad, and Shaw, not punished.

I dont like the idea of signing one player like Iginla or Horton, they'll come in and be expected to be Parise and the lack of depth up front will continue to show.

I see him in teal as part of the flying Stalberg Brothers.

Take him. He's a great winger with top flight speed. But hes not a finisher. Hawks cant justify the money he wants on a 3rd liner at best, who was non existent in a physical LA series.

We nee dto choose where to spend our money, and it's obviously on Bickell.

I think Stalberg is a must sign, regardless of what happens with Clarkson. If we keep Clarkson, great.. we still need a 3rd (or 2nd) line RW. If we lose Clarkson, now we need a 3rd AND 2nd line RW.. or make it a top 6 LW to play with Kovalchuk. Lou needs to shed and spend.

Stalberg will get your hopes up as he rushes down the ice...but then he shoots the puck into the goalies crest. If you played Columbus more I would say to sign him immediately.

He scored at 10% last year, so he isnt incapable. He mad a power move off of a chip in the Detroit series in game three and lifted a backhand over Howard off the crossbar, so he's not all finesse.

Sometimes players need more than 8-10 mins of ice time.

Disagree. Devils have scoring issues already and bringing in someone who isn't a proven goal scorer is simply a waste of money. I'm tired of settling for Pony, D'Agostini, Butler, Sullivan, etc. I'd rather give some of the kids like Boucher and Matteau a shot rather than spend money on players whose ceilings you already know. Same can be said on D where Gelinas and Urbom should be given a chance to replace Zidlicky. If the Devils keep signing these mediocre players they'll continue to be a 8th-10th team. Let's face it, with Marty hangin 'em up soon and Elias soon after, this franchise is in flux. It's time to start re-building this thing.

Maybe the best size/speed ration in the league, but very rarely uses his size. Very rarely. A perimeter player. Decent defensively, can be very good when he wants to be. Very good shot.

The Devils would be foolish to rebuild with no first rounder next year. As long as they don't trade away a bunch of young assets, they have to use this year as one last kick at the can with Brodeur to try and win. I think Stalberg is the perfect blend of low risk and high reward that could really do well in the Devils system. Resign Zubrus too and let them play their roles for the right price. I agree with the need to let the young d-men play though. Gelinas could really end up being a stud and Urbom has the potential to develop into a reliable 4th d-man that teams need to win games in a long season.

Based upon the Chicago fans' comments, I would not sign him. Also, he was not in the lineup last night in Game 1 SCF, that is concerning.

I would rather sign Zubrus for 2 years at $2-3 million per and replace him in 2 years with Matteau.

As far as a potential replacement for Clarkson, I would look more to Brunner as a UFA signing.

"Low risk and high reward" just like Butler and D'Agostini? It bothers me that with FA starting in a few weeks we are discussing Viktor Stalberg as a viable option. Let's get players who can actually put the puck IN the net...not just get the puck to the net.

The longer Lou puts off replacing Parise (and possibly Clarkson), the longer this team will continue to suck.

Sorry, but Stalberg isn't good enough.

Lets be real. Interesting signing? Sure. There's about 5-10 guys who would be fun to sign in NHL 13 to play around with.

Acutal production, real top 6 FW...who needs that?

The Ponikarovsky, Sullivan, D'Agonstini, and even Loktionov type garbage heap players of the world won't cut it.

Maybe like Butler or D'ags but maybe like Loktionov or Bernier... I think speed is something the Devils really need and it would more than likely be in a third line capacity. I'd still want them to go after a UFA like Ryder or Brunner (very likely staying with the Wings though) or a buyout candidate like Heatley or Briere. Those guys know how to score and maybe being back on the same team with Kovy could spark Heatley back into the elite player he once was. It would have to be for the right price but Briere might like the thought of not having to move his kids across the country either. Just my two cents

I was thinking the same think. Someone one here said to get younger and let Matteau or Boucher to play, but I think they both play at least a year in Albany. So if we signed Briere and Heatley to 1 or 2 year deals and Stalberg, that would fill out the top 9 if Elias and Zubrus resign. Maybe even Bryz to a 2 or 3 year deal and trade or keep Moose.

It could look like this:

Heatley - Lokti/Zajac/Henrique - Kovy
Elias - Lokti/Zajac/Henrique - Briere
Zubrus - Lokti/Zajac/Henrique - Stalberg
Carter - Gionta - Bernier

Be realistic, this isnt NHL13. Lou never does anything during free agency. I expect the Carter-Gionta-Bernier line to be our 3rd line this year. Having bums like Barch and Janssen on the 4th line with some random AHLers.

He's okay offensively (2nd line), needs to be a better 2-way player. Not a replacement for Clarkson as he may lack playoff intensity.

Betcha Florida signs him.
