Everything points to picking the best available forward. Ideally I think they would prefer Nichushkin or Barkov over Drouin only because of size. (I'm assuming Jones and MacKinnon 1 & 2.) |

Grossman for mcbain - Just5
We don't want Grossman's BIG $3.5M salary for a so far 3rd pairing dman. McBain has had his ups and downs and very likely could get traded, but at least at $1.8M he is priced about where he should be for a #5 or #6 dman. |

I'd love to see Skinner skating next to Duchene in Col. All that speed would be insane. I'm not sure how that'd get done unless you guys want Stastny and a couple of bags of pucks--perty sure we're not giving up our one decent defenseman (EJ), but who knows? |

Not sure about the cap situations and what this trade would do for either team but if Skinner is still playing C or was he ever a C ? anyways if he is and or was would their be a trade to be had with Toronto for Gardiner ? You get a good D all though he is an offensive guy and they possibly get their number 1 C just not a big one lol |

I don't know what else would go either way, but any deal of that magnitude with Clr would include Erik Johnson in return. The Canes don't want the last year of Stastny's deal any more than you do. |

I'm surprised Garth hasn't done a Jeff Skinner blog yet (this year). |

Seeing the buffalo thread that's probably too good an offer. Like Sekera and a 4th. |

I'd make that move in a second if I were FLA...
And since when did we start talking in the third person? |

Faulk is not going anywhere. We need defense and he is the best dman that Carolina has. |

The absurdity of putting an all offense, no defense winger out for defensive zone faceoffs against the other teams best players continues to boggle the mind.
A shame to see a developing 20 year old be put in a position to fail like that.
The idea of trading him is tricky, because he can make a 3rd line a scoring threat by himself. Throw him out there with any 2 NHL players, and I think he'll still get his chances. And even some subpar NHL'rs with some decent instincts could probably grab a few points off from his offense. But if he's dealt, the Canes will have to build an actual 3rd line.
I could do without seeing a Bowman-Nash-Wallace line ever again.

Skinner has a history with Landeskog so there may be some instant chemistry on the ice. I don't think anything gets done without Eric Johnson in return. |

Canes aren't rebuilding. They are trying to retool and build a blue line for 2013-14. So any big trade that starts with anything except a reasonably proven NHL dman and then ends with ...random prospect ____ and ___ round draft pick is a no-go. |

As distasteful as it will be to many, I think Skinner gets moved this summer. The top line is set with EStaal/Semin/Tlusty. The second line is probably going to be pencilled in as Ruutu/JStaal/Nich (likely draft choice) and that line would be a bear of a matchup for opponents. That leaves Skinner on the 3rd with 2 guys named Mo. That in itself isn't bad, but there is still a big hole on defense and JR really doesn't have a lot of money available under the new cap after signing JStaal and Semin to longer term deals. He will also have to deal with Faulk in the near future and he is going to get about $3M more than he is currently getting.
Simply put, JR needs Skinner's money to pay for defense and Skinner is JR's best tradeable asset. I think how the draft shakes out will be a big indicator in this. |
