I liked kreuger and I think the team did to but this is mac t's team now and he is cleaning out a lot of steve tambellinis moves. I think this firing came down to just that. At least mac t is doing what he said he would instead of avoiding the teams problems its a breath of fresh air for oilers fans. |

Eakins picked the Oilers over Vancouver, Dallas, New York.
What's the big deal?

Just heard from a reliable source that Eakins wanted to coach a good young up and coming team and not an old washed up one. That's why he ended up in Edmonton and actually turned down a 3rd interview from Gillis. |

We did beat you guys to the punch. MacT found out Eakins had a 2nd interview in Vancouver and fired Krueger so we wouldn't lose out on Eakins to you guys. Gillis wasn't just messing with Nonis. Eakins was the hot young coach on the market Gillis wanted him. Otherwise there is no 2nd interview. Nonis knew he would be leaving somewhere. This theory of yours is very flawed. Why can't you just admit we beat you to him? |

there is alot of who cares in this blog, oilers still need to improve the blueline, in due time i think they will be a dominant team once they figure out their D probs, nucks on the other hand are a mess and should dump off schnieder and go into a small rebuild and they need to figure out cap issues, plus i dont think were gonna see nucks holding #1 in divisions anymore with the new division set ups, best of luck |

Leafs knew Eakins would be scooped up...why would you think it upset the Leafs that Gillis gave him 2 interviews? It has zero impact.
If anything, the Canucks lost out... |

Exactly. Nonis gave Gillis permission to talk to him. Why else would he do this? |

It sucks losing Eakins, he’s been great with the youth of the Leafs. But, I highly doubt losing their AHL coach is high on the list of things causing Nonis stress. In fact, it was pretty much a sure thing Eakins was going to an NHL team, they just didn’t know which one. So, I don’t think it would cause ANY issues in Toronto. A couple of interviews meant nothing. They’ve probably been looking at the list of potential coaches since before any interview with any team. |

There is less pressure in Edmonton to win now, making the playoffs is acceptable next season. This is not the case in Vancouver. Less pressure on a rookie NHL coach. That's why he is a fit in Edmonton, can you blame him? |

I think Eakins wouldve been great in vancouver. His hard working style is just what you guys need. Who else are they interested in? Ruff would be a good fit with a veteran team. Tortorella I think would be a huge mistake. I don't think the team could take his hard ass approach, publicly calling out players. It would be nice to see him go off on John Garrett though. |

We need a lot more help than just Eakins to make the playoffs. Even if we make it in, teams like St. Louis and L.A. are gonna pulverize our midgets |

The Canucks have a veteran team and they want a coach with NHL head coaching experience. That's what management wants and that's what the players want.
Burrows was interviewed shortly after AV was fired and he said the players wanted a coach with experience who could motivate them. That wasn't Eakins. Doesn't mean he won't be a good fit for the Oilers, just wasn't what the Canucks wanted. |

He left Vancouver after his second interview without an offer. He wasn't the guy the Canucks wanted. They want someone with NHL head coaching experience. |

Gillis liked him, but he didn't want him because he has no NHL head coaching experience. |
