good for him. He's accomplished a lot in his career and best to quit before you scramble those eggs for good. Enjoy the millions and your name will always be on the cup. Good luck Andy! |

An excellent career for McDonald and this might be the one thing that takes St Louis to the next level. He really was too soft during the playoffs and was given too much ice time. One trade away from a great cup run (if their goalies can continue to play at their level). |

Worst trade in Ducks history, IMO, was Andy Mac for Doug Weight. Good luck in your retirement, Andy. |

I have always loved McDonald, and wished he played for the Preds. Hate to see him retire for these reasons....but glad he won't be playing against the Preds anymore. |

probably for the best. as someone who continues to myself suffer from multiple concussions i wish him the best with his recovery. anyone who thinks players who suffer these injuries are 100% upon returning clearly have no idea. |

Yep. I have a buddy who was a soccer goalie in college and has had 4 documented concussions. I can't make a sharp turn with him in the car or he damn near throws up. Scary. |

It's best for his health, so I can't blame him. |

Always liked Andy McDonald, too bad he could never stay healthy enough. His speed and hands would have allowed him to play longer but the physical part of the game got to him first. |

We'll always love Andy "2 goals 3 points in finals game 4" McDonald in Anaheim. Dude had 10 goals in the playoffs that year. Man, between Andy and Kariya, what a bummer. But at least McDonald can show his face in Anaheim without getting booed. Come on back to SoCal and enjoy your retirement Andy. |

He has already said he is staying in the St. Louis area. He loves it there and that is another reason for his retirement. he didnt want to move his family and he didnt fit in to the Blues plans next season.
Good Luck Andy Mac!!! |

Sad to see him go as he was far from done in terms of significant play on the ice. That being said this decision is a smart one for Andy and his post-hockey future so for that I applaud him for making this decision. Best of luck in your future |

This is sad news.
I can only imagine what it does to one's mind when they are playing, worrying about when the next big hit is going to come, and if that hit ends your career, or hurts you as badly as Marc Savard.
I am glad he is going out on his own terms.
I wish him luck. |

I'll never forgive you for contributing to that SCF loss, but I liked you as a player - best wishes, Andy Mac! |
