As much as we know the Oilers would love to land a franchise D, MacT would never deal his BFF.

Meh...

Frankie might be a franchise D for the Nucks but he would be 5-6 D at best on the Oil....

If the Canucks trade Edler, it needs to be in a package for a top6 forward. It's a bigger need than a 3C at this point.

If only the Canucks D could compare with the Oilers...

The Oilers are going to (frank) up and simply buy out Horcoff while having no replacement for him whatsoever and he's going to ply his trail either in his native BC or his wife's native Michigan.

You can have him at 2.25 a year while the Oilers don't win a faceoff all year.

not trying to start a war or anything, but be careful how you value defensemen .... as much as we know how valuable they are to a team, it seems they bring less return in trades than one expects.

Now, I'm not comparing Edler to Regehr, but LA only gave up two 2nds to get Reghr ... Edler would not fetch that much more ..... more for sure, but not a huge package.

It's quite obvious the Oil are loaded at every position. They simply miss the playoffs each year because they can't wait to get the (frank) out of Edmonton.

Regehr was a pending UFA right?

He's skilled, but he's soft/undersized/can't win a draw/not good defensively. Exactly the type of player that gets exposed in the playoffs.

He would be a bargain at the $2.5-$3 million range. But SIX?! No way on this earth. I would sooner pay Weiss what he wants.. who, by the way, would be a good fit for Vancouver.

Tell that to PITTS and STL—Edler is quite a bit better than Johnson and Goligoski. Defense is and has been a sellers market for years.

Not trying to start a war, but I am absolutely shocked by this post. You are out to lunch.

Edler is not even in the same realm of value as Regehr.

26 year old one year removed from an allstar appearance who puts up .60 points a game, is 6'3" 220 pounds, hits like a truck, and blocks a ton of shots. And he's signed long term to a good contract—Regehr was a pending UFA.

You're comparing him to Regehr at this point in his career..... Wow!

LA only gave up two 2nd round picks for Regehr because he isn't in the same class as Edler. Look what they got for Jack Johnson. They got Jeff Carter. And Edler is a lot better than Johnson. St. Louis traded Erik Johnson and got Chris Stewart and Kevin Shattenkirk. Guess what, Edler's better than that Johnson too.

There is a tonne of value in trading good, young defencemen, who are locked up long term on below market value contracts.

Who knows where he'd play in Edmonton. But for a team looking to get bigger, tougher and more experienced, a 20 year old, 190 lb. offensive dman would probably play in the bottom pairing, at least for next year.

This is no slight against the guy, he'd be a great get, but I don't see him necessarily ahead of Smid, Schultz, Schultz or Petry right now.

As much as I disliked Roy, the not good defensively statement is incorrect.

His two way play is one of his attributes.

Steve Ott is the perfect fit for the Canucks right now. Would be the ideal player for their 3rd line. Yes, the asking price would be high, but maybe they could put together an appealing package or take back one of Buffalo's horrible contracts to buy out in return.

As of now they have no interest in moving him.

More than likely he will get a new deal and be named Captain.

Corrado?

He's a defensive D, with offensive ability.

His defensive game has always been his bread and butter—the reason he was nominated for OHL D of the year, and the reason the Kitchener Rangers traded for him to play with Murphy.

The fact that he has a good shot and pass is just gravy.
