you're a blob machine bill. stars fans are lucky to have you, too.

coaching in the nhl is a short-tenured gig. best not to buy a house. so what's the next move for a young coach like this with only a 2 year track record at this level? does he take a step back before moving forward?

I would think the next logical step would either be an NHL assistant coach job for a few years or another stint as an AHL head coach.

the coach takes the sword for an owner who did not want to spend his cash and a GM who spent what he was given poorly.

Bill,

You do realize that the Assistant Coach's name is Curt Fraser, not Bennett, right?

The coach and GM took the sword for the prior owner (Hicks). Newy and GG did a decent job while the team was being run by the lenders/league.

The Stars are at the cap floor and they should be while rebuilding; no reason to overspend on the Cristobal Huets or Brian Campbells of the world when your kids are just getting their feet wet.

Nothing wrong with spending a little money on Jagr he gets you to the floor then you flip him hopefully for a 1st if the Bruins win 4 more.

Still 5 years without the playoffs and I won't miss much of the upper management, I'd like to see some playoff games back at the AAC.

I wonder if the Stars will bring Willie Desjardins back up to the big team?

Yes, of course. I fixed it. Just a typo stemming from having answered a question earlier today about hockey brother combos who played on the same NHL team; specifically whether former St. Louis Blues teammates Curt and Harvey Bennett were brothers. Must have have the Bennetts still in my brain.

Nill was sought after by many teams over the years. It says something that he chose Dallas. He'll have full reign to spend or he wouldn't have accepted. It's a very good young team. The West is better with guys like Nill and JD taking over teams out of the playoffs. Good thing for lots of teams that the Oilers keep hiring ex Oilers instead of the best guy available. Nill in Edmonton would put them over the top.

I'd agree with this. But they'll probably sign a guy or two that can help them push for 8th seed regardless. Dallas has a Franchise player, a more than serviceable goaltender and another good on coming up through the system. An above average defense. What they lack is depth which at the moment is being filled by young guys learning the game. I think your team is in a damn good position to develop and compete at the same time. Pretty enviable position if you ask me.

Nill will turn this team around and your post is spot on
