good stuff. never even thought twice about Alt - let alone remembered his name or his position in the boucher deal. would be fantastic if he turned out to be a legit nhl defender in the 3-5 spot range. will keep my on him next season.

Nice bit about Alt.

Maybe the Phantoms will have a decent young roster next year for the first time in a while.

Bill, is there any Flyer defenseman since the 2004 lockout that Alt reminds you of?

i'm looking forward to their return to the area in '14-15. would be nice if they came in on a high note.

and looking at the phantoms web site, they better get their asses in gear on that construction.

Way to play defense Vorachek!
GO GUS! - It's so good to see him continue to play those big minutes. I'm fine with him gaining some confidence. I want him to walk into training camp and bust some heads. Kid needs to claim his spot on the blueline.
And I did see Lilja's comments about Alt and it's nice to know we might have something to look forward to. Thanks for the info Bill!

That's going to be great. Allentown is an easy 1 hour ride for me.

Me too.

Between this new arena and the new arena opening up at Penn State, I have a couple of road trips to plan.

i lived just southwest of allentown for from 05-08 - would absolutely been a season ticket holder then. good hockey for dirt cheap. it should boost the area. people up in the valley follow the flyers. the iron pigs draw well, so there's a least some barometer for minor league success.

i'm pretty sure i'll have moved to the phoenix area by then, so...no phantoms for me. oh well.

i actually checked out their ticket pricing. lower levels seats full season are pretty damn reasonable. i'd probably do a half-season package. however, i'm convinced as soon as i move there, the ownership situation will get resolved and either the team will move or fold.

OK, in an effort to make myself feel better, I'm going to pretend that we got Alt and Mason for Bob. I'm hoping both of those guys turn into stars. We don't get Boucher and Alt if we kept Bob. Same for Mason. That will make the sting of Bob winning the Vezina hurt a bit less.

I can't take credit for this, but...

This youth hockey (players born in 2002) fight from a tournament in Novokuznetsk, Russia, is remarkable for several reasons, none the least being that it’s set to some kind of Eastern European Everlast song. Watch the chaos:

Is Terry Murray returning as coach of the phantoms next year? Seems like he has done some great work with the defensemen down there.

I often go out there to visit my father and watch a game. The arena is fairly nice. They built a big area for bars, restaurants and an open air stage right next to one half of it. Last time I was there we sat on the patio sipping beers listening to a live band with some awesome food while we waited for the doors to open. LOTS of Flyers fans were out and about. I got very little grief for my jersey...
And with the hotel for players right there I got to see Shelley out and walking around in his suit (scratched for the night).
Plenty of parking. All in all a good experience. I hope they stay there!

Although he wasn't here after the lockout, a righthanded version Eric Weinrich would be my comparison player. Think Weinrich in his latter career with Montreal and the Flyers, not in his youth and prime. In other words, I don't think Alt has the offensive upside to be a 5-7 goal, 32-38 point guy but can be a steady two-way D with a chance to develop into a 20-point producer.

Small sample size of AHL games thus far, but he played well. Lilja's glowing praise caught my attention, because he spent a lot of time in the NHL and has been teammates with some outstanding defensemen. He's also not someone who generally throws out a lot of superlatives about a rookie, especially after so few games. You can tell he was genuinely impressed by what he saw as Alt's D partner.

I don't know. Nothing has been said. Murray did it this season as a favor to the Flyers organization. Not sure if he wants to spend another year riding the buses. He'll turn 63 in July.

So we have a lot of future 3-6 d-men coming up... Alt, Gostisbere, Laurdasen, Manning, Gustefsson, & Bourdon. Am I missing anyone?

Question for Bill, and anyone that wants to field. Other then Gus, who would be the best bet to make the team next season, and who do you think has the highest potential?
