Ian Esplen: Leafs, Burrows and the Officials
Leafs, Burrows and the Officials - IanEsplen
Nonis, Carlyle and the Leafs deserve to be credited with managing to become relevant again. Even if they don't complete the comeback and beat Boston, they've set themselves up to be a playoff team again and with some careful cap and asset management, the chance to be a contender again in 3-4 years when the Pens, Bruins start to decline and leave the East open once more. |

"I honestly don't think any of these guys are "targets". What these guys are, are hard working players, who get after the puck when they are on the ice. When you're always playing at 110% and pursuing the puck, you will get penalized."
Burrows?
Bwahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
I'm sure it has nothing to do with his years of diving and generally not having any morals in playing the game. He has years of good behaviour before the refs change their view of him. |

The only thing I am tired about is hearing you complain about the officiating.

Don't get me started on that "no rules infraction" game between the Lightning and Bruins. |

Kings and Sharks should be a sfunny series.
I picture, Doughty skating next to Couture and both of them diving in different directions. |

Alex Burrows through out the years has developed a reputation with the officials. Now I am not saying that he is the same as Matt Cooke, but the same thing happens to Cooke. Quite often Cooke gets a two minute minor for being Matt Cooke. Unfortunately for Burrows the same thing is happening. Throughout his career of complaining, diving and playing on that edge he is in the same situation where on a 50/50 call he doesn't get the break and ends up serving two for being Alex Burrows. |

That joke might be funny when you guys no longer have Kessler, Burrows, the Sedin twins, LaPierre, and Luongo.
I started watching last year's series against the Kings last night. The very first goal of the series was Kessler initiating contact with Quick, pretending Quick somehow hurt HIM, and then Vancouver shooting before Quick is really in position. I think about a minute later, LaPierre interferes with a King and dives.
Here's Burrows instigating a fight against Kopitar after he was the third (or fourth) man into an altercation with Brown:

Here's Burrows biting a dude:

Burrows is an unstable moron and deserves to be treated as such.
It's just amazing how different opposing teams can be. I have SO much respect for the Blues, but I still can't stand Vancouver. |

I agree. The Canucks have made their bed and now they have to sleep in it.
Their powerplay was a thing of beauty in years past so it made sense for them to try and draw as many penalties as possible, but they did it at the expense of their team integrity and overall respect factor. Not to mention it made them one of the most hated teams in the league according to numerous opponents and fans league-wide.
I really think they're trying to rehab that image but the curve to do that will be a long and steep one. At his presser, Gillis suggested it's the media's job to make sure everyone knows other teams are diving too. I say, screw that. That's nothing but a diversion.
I'm hoping the Canucks have paid the price in the world of karma, but we'll have to wait and see I guess. All I can say as a fan is...the way they acted in the cup run postseason was pretty fricken embarrassing.
As Flyers coach Mike Keenan used to say to Wayne Gretzky's Oilers and Co...
'Earn your chances!' |
