Really?
That's horrible, honestly. Really bad.
Shero, Jarmo, Bergevin maybe. What the hell did Bob Murray do, besides resign two big name stars in a no-brainer move? |

Bergevin deserves it, from last place last year to a #2 seed this year, he has turned around the habs for the better, pens already have a star team and was expected to do what they did |

This award though is kinda tough to judge. A GM could do (frank) all the whole year and still be the GM of the year in my books. Why you ask, because being a GM isn't just about what a team does during the year. The GM is a building job, a job that can't be rated on just one year.
Case and point Chicago. Did very little this year, but because of moves and draft picks from previous years look where the team is. Boston is another. |

If Shero wins it's because of trades, and if Bergevin wins it's because he was able to take the last place Habs to second in the East. |

If Shero wins it's because of Sidney Crosby, even though the Bruins had a better offer to get Iginla, and if Bergevin wins it's because he was able to take the last place Habs to second in the East. - Thehabsfan93

Of the 3, Shero wins - MasWE
Why? For riding that 6 year skid mark that gave them Crosby, Malkin and co. ? |

Dont remember the exact rumor but it was widely reported Boston had a better offer but Iginla wanted to go play with Crosby and Malkin. |

Habs players are currently nominated for 3 awards with a possible coach of the year nomination on the horizon as well.
Of the 4 potential nominations to me this is the only one that a Habs player/individual should win.
The reason for this is not the names of players we dealt or acquired, it's what has happened in the background.
Sure we parted ways with Cole and Gomez and acquired Prust, Armstrong, Bouillon which changed the dynamics of the team. And yes we all know about the coaching staff of Gallant, Daigneault and Therrien but to me the crucial part of the success is the behind the scenes work.
From scouting to player development, etc... Bergeving changed the culture of the organization by bringng in guys like Dudley, Mellanby, Brisebois, Lapointe.

Good Points, Lahey.
In fact, I'd argue that Bergevin is a weak candidate, other than cutting the fat he didn't do much to change the roster he inherited.
Did he sign any players besides Colby Armstrong I'm forgetting?
He drafted Galyenchuk in a no-brainer, played hardball with PK Subban, and replaced the coaching staff, all good moves but nothing insane.
He traded Cole for Ryder, a move I'd hardly call a win.
Seems to me in general the team's success has been keyed by the draft picks and players that were already in the organization. |

I've seen quite a bit of hatred towards Burke from Canucks fans.
My question is this.... I think it's quite clear that Burke did many good things for the franchise. he brought in the vast majority of the core of the Canucks. Gillis hasn't really done very much to improve the team at all. If anything, I'd say he's done quite a bit to dismantle it.
If you could go back, would you rather take Burke as GM over the past 5 years, or stick with Gillis? |

Signed Brandon Prust and Francis Bouillin (lots of character)
Cole = 2 more years left @ 4 mil
Ryder = UFA

Considering since Shero was hired as GM, the Pens haven't drafted any lower then 18th, and haven't missed the playoffs. |

really? trading a player with 2 years at $4.5 million left (he had 7 points this year) for a UFA in a year when the cap is going down significantly (and picking up a third in the process) isn't a win? ok. |
