So...... you wont go to the locker room to get post game interviews after the most important game for the islanders in a very long time, forget for a second it was the last game of their season. You never have ANY kind of insight into ANYTHING... no new info from your buddy Garth's lips, You get interviews with him & NEVER ask him any questions of relevance. When you do interview the players.. the interview is always about their lucky socks, or how their family is doing, what their favorite color is, if they gave their dog a birthday party... it never has ANYTHING to do with the game at hand or the sport of hockey! WTF?? Why even bother?? I get it you are a fan, and you cant get past that, but seriously.. come on!!

Not a good list of goalies.....
I did read somewhere that JT looks up to Nabby for on ice/off ice suggestions, so he could be back.. |

Dee, a humble pain remedy for you...
Our Penguins barely escaped this first round against your Islanders. Even our Captain Sidney Crosby said yesterday, "That was a good team..." and he emphasized 'good'.
I think it's very fair to say your Islanders easily outplayed us in four of the six games, but alas, this is the Stanley Cup playoffs, and anything can happen. Your team had a few lucky bounces earlier in the series that resulted in goals, and then we had one in overtime on Saturday.
Here's to the Isles and all they accomplished during this series. Believe you me, we Pens fans noticed. And as a rabbid hockey fan, I can't wait to see what the Isles can put together over this summer. |

I remember the 75 Team and the ceremony they held at Eisenhower Park the week after they lost to Philly in 7.
However nice nostalgia is, these days owners, coaches and GM's know what it takes to build a Cup Winner. Cliches like they "wereallheartnevbersaydiefoughttothefinishourheroesblahblahblah" are nice but LA is a prototypical team with high draft choices and solid goaltending.
Experience counts but you need young players to keep pushing through the playoffs. Difference between 75 and 80 Isles was the youth of Trottier, Bossy and Duane Sutter to add to the experience and completely different D (Langevin, Morrow, Persson, Lane) and Smith vs Chico in the nets. |

The gentleman from Western Pennsylvania is right.
Check the quotes from Orpik. He did nothing but praise the Isles. This was a 'coming out party' of sorts.
Excluding 02, these playoff series for us was just a blip for the opponent. This time, NHL fans got to see an up and coming team, that is not going to take no crap from anyone.
My head is held up high, and my pride is beaming. Despite being eliminated, it is a great day to be an Islander fan.

Proud of the boys who went out and played their balls off against the Pens. I still think had the Isles played anyteam outside of Pitt they would have ran them over in the 1st round, lesson learned to never let points slip away down the stretch. For the 1st time in a very very very long time, we can look towards next season knowing that the Isles should be in a position to make a deep run for years to come.
P.S. - Depressing to know that my only sports outlet till the NY Giants and NY Isles start up again is the Mets..... |

Really? Tim Thomas, Mike Smith, Backstrom, etc.... I think it's a great list. I also think there will be a couple other that get bought out. |

My season post-mortem.....
It's still hard to take that we were up with a little more than 5 minutes left away from forcing a Game 7, a game where anything could have happened, and probably would have. We outplayed them in almost every facet of the game, gave them everything they can handle, and, while that's great, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Although, most of my frustration and anger have subsided, I still can't believe Nabokov played this poorly the entire series. Yes, there was nothing he can do on the last 2 goals, really, but did he stand on his head once this entire series? It pisses me off to watch guys like Lundqvist and, even Reimer, make incredible saves when our goalie can't stop one breakaway.
I'm not speculating who's gonna be on the roster yet, because that's a convo for another day. I'm very proud of this team, not just the guys who performed big time (JT, KO, CC, Hamonic, Grabner, etc.) but the guys like Strait and Nelson and Ullstrom who were thrusted into situations they're either undertalented for or not really ready for and did admirably.
We found out that, yes, there was a 5-year plan, and yes, we have the foundation to compete for what should be a long time. For all the poop Snow gets on this site, from me as well, he has brought in a group that outplayed the number one team in the conference and, if not for a lucky bounce or two, would have been playing Game 7 last night. But...I'm ecstatic about the future and we should be real competitors next season. I think it's safe we will not be picked to finish 14th in the Conference next year, so we will not sneak up on anyone. But, we have a foundation of players that we have seen do not crack under the pressure and that I have confidence will close out important games in the future.
Like I said a few days ago...I hope the rest of the NHL's fans had fun rooting for us the past week and a half, because Cinderella has left the building. We will not be a fun team to root for soon. We will be the team you're trying to beat.

Eh, I'm not too excited by that list. Smith is the only guy I'd give consideration to out of that group. Backstrom is 35, Thomas likely isn't coming back (we could still toll his contract), Miller is an interesting option via trade though I think I'd rather stay away from him as well. Both Poulin and Nilsson should be nearing their NHL ready phase so I think I'd rather reup Nabby for 1 year and have him split time with either one of them. It's time to find out just what we have with those guys. The 2014 group looks more intruiging with Miller leading the group. If we weren't to go after Smith, I'd probably consider rolling with what we have and then reacting in 2014's UFA if they're deemed a fail. That said, I think our future goaltender is already in the system and likely ready to begin getting some starts very soon. |

A guy who didn't want to play this year, a guy who has put up good numbers when (and only when) he has a stellar defense in front of him, and a good regular season goalie coming off a season-ending surgery. Not the best crop possible. |

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but was that not the last ever game at Nassau?
Is the team not moving down the island to Brooklyn next year?
How far a commute is this for the islander faithful?
Are their any fans who have effectively lost their team, and to which this was the last ever game?

There's nothing wrong with bringing Nabby back... but you need to let Poulin or whoever we decide might take over play @ least 30 games or more.
You just need to phase Nabby out. He's a great insurance policy.
I think we have to see what we have in the organization first, unless we get a great goalie in a trade for a great price!!! |

Still in Nassau at least next year and possibly the one after. The new arena's not very far...like 20 miles or so to the west. But with Long Island/Brooklyn traffic patterns, it's much easier to just take the train there rather than drive it. |

Actually, it's more like when the Capitals moved from Landover, MD to downtown DC. This is a very good thing for the franchise.

where the hell is Kencan?!!? wasnt he the one that blasted me for comparing this years team to where the penguins were in their development?
maybe he wont disagree with his boy brooks orpik....
"That's a good team over there," Orpik said, " They remind me of our team the first year we went to the playoffs and lost to Ottawa." |

I would like to see what the price would be to trade for Halak. He's nder contract for next season and seems to be disgruntled in St. Louis. |

From what I hear, Miller has an ego and similar attitude as a player that is on a long contract and is no longer with us.
Do you want another one of those? |
