It will all be for naught if we hire within the organization in my opinion, we need a new face with new ideas. Dave Tippet's contract is up this offseason too, could be another option after Ruff and Boucher.

Thank you god!!! Now we can have a real coach! Why not reccoment Gwoz from DU? That would a PR home run for denver.

Maybe a new coach is all Stastny or Jones needs to start putting up numbers again

......or just a coach that can get everything out of our players that we have instead of throwing them in the doghouse all the time, mismanaging the bench and knows anything about offense.

This. Doesnt mean diddly if they promote Tim Army or bring Chynoweth up from Lake Erie. However with Sherman contract expiring, he could get canned as well. New GM, new mentality on who the new coach should be.

We could see a package deal hiring of a Head Coach and New GM before the draft this year. If we have all that and Jones or Drouin. This would be one hell of an offseason.

Lacriox and MGMT are the ones who like "hiring from within", its been that way for far longer than Sherman has been around.

I say no reason to fire sherman this year. Give him another shot. Its hard to Judge a GM when the team has a terrible coach who cant bring out the best in the players the GM gets him. Plus I don't think sherman has been the problem at all.

I actually dont even mind the idea of Guy Carbonneau, I think he was a good coach in Montreal, just the media destroyed him with that whole no communication storyline.

Tippet would be a TERRIBLE fit for this team. He has a terrible reputation for being unable to develop young talent which the avs need badly. Also I don't want the avs to play trap for the love of god.

Lets get a coach with an offensive system who actually knows who to get players in good scoring lanes, run a PP and knows how to use Dmen in the offense like at all so we dont have to watch sacco part 2

The brilliant mind of Greg Sherman:

Varlamov was bolting to Russia, Washington had next to nothing in terms of leverage, they were either trading him or losing him, let's give them a first and a second.

Made playoffs in 2010? Struggling with injuries, let's hit the panic button and trade our power-forward and rookie of the year candidate for the disappointing Johnson.

Anderson was a wonderful pickup, but screw negotiating, let's trade him because he wants more money then let the asset we got for him leave for nothing.

Fleiscmann probably his best trade, might as well not even attempt to re-sign him. That killer chemistry he had with Duchene? (frank) that.

Mueller has the best shot on this team, dump him. Concussion problems aside we have trouble scoring.

O'reilly situation a complete embarrassment to the organization, won't budge from the 3.5 million low ball, now we have him at 6.5.

Tippet would be a TERRIBLE fit for this team. Also I don't want the avs to play trap for the love of god.

You're actually right, I was just spit balling ideas, he's a good coach, but not a good fit here.

Agreed. I loved the Downie and McGinn moves but he overpayed for Varlamov and I think he'd take back the Erik Johnson trade if he could. Should have re-signed Felischmann as well instead of letting him walk for nothing.

Avs are just like the Oilers, nice young forward group with a decent goalie but the D-core needs a lot of work and coaching/management has to be better.

OEL, Yandle, and Hanzal all say hi, and Vermette, Verbata, and Smith all say "He turned around my career."

Obviously how much impact he had on turning around those guys careers is up in the air, but it's pretty safe to say that saying he can't develop young talent isn't true.

Whitney was able to score, and Verbata had a 30 goal season... I wouldn't really worry too much about Tippet stifling anyone's offense. Hitchcock was known the same way, but obviously works with the team he has and the capability of the roster.

I like the idea of Tippet personally.

With Elliott, Barrie and Siemens, the Avs have a few more prospects than the Oilers but otherwise, agreed.

Valry is an amazing young goalie that the avs haven't had since forever.

Jonson was one of the only Defenders who could play Defense this year.

Anderson(along with RoR and many others) had problems with how lacriox and the Kroenke's did business which has been around far longer than sherman.

Fla way overpaid for Flash as rough as it was to see him go, Mueller was never the answer and PA has been amazing.

The O'reilly catastrophe was everyone's fault.

Why does everyone forget its not the Johnson for Stewart and Shatty trade, its Stewart and Shatty for EJ and Seimens.

Give it a few years and people will see the avs still won.

Stewart is good offensively but is still inconsistent and is sub par defensively, plus we have gabe.

Shatty is amazing and I miss him but he is an offensive Dman and we needed someone who could be better in our own Zone. Plus we had Elliot and Barrie. This one still hurt but I think Seimens will be just as big of a fan favorite as he will hit like a truck and give the avs a mean dman we havent had since the young adam foote

As usual I agree with pretty much everything you said. On a low budget team I think Sherman redeemed himself by using the 4+Mil Flash was asking for and got PA instead who is a better player with much less health risk.

Tambelini for the Oilers as a GM literally never did ANYTHING his whole tenure as GM , so I wouldn't say he is that comparable to Sherman who actually is always trying to make a trade or sign an FA to improve the team that had NOTHING but wolski and Stastny just a few years back

Only OEL is young talent on that team and he is one of the best prospects in the world. Even duchene played well under sacco but because he an All world talent. Vermettes numbers are no different then they have ever been and Smith is happy because they play trap. None of those players put up any points at all.

Trap is boring as hell.

Everyone knows Tippet pretty much only plays veterans and cant develop. Its why Turris is gone and why he was fired from Dallas.

He is a good coach because he is making a playoff team with a non playoff teams roster and no budget but he is an AWFUL fit with the avs. Like Ron wilson bad fit.

The only other thing I am going to say is that there isn't much point changing a ton about the avs to fix their problem.

If we fire everyone then most likely someone who didn't needed to got fired will.

If Sacco was the real problem behind the avs then give sherman a year and we will know for sure whether he is the right GM for Denver or one of the problems. We won't know if it was his lack of ability to build a solid roster or just that he had an inept bostonian coach holding him down until we see how this team fairs under their next coach.

Lacroix needs to learn to change his ways or be fired along with his brother and make Sakic the President of hockey Decisions, where he belongs when he is ready.

Ownership needs to stop being so cheap and spend the money they have to to put a winner on the ice.

I'm hoping Sakic can find a way to enhance the team as well. He can appeal to a lot of players and staff. Patrick Roy would be great because he's feisty and demands perfection. I don't know how players would respond to that, but I feel like it's a far cry from Sacco's methods. There's a good chance of hiring him now that his son isn't playing anymore. I don't know anything about his contract with the Remparts. That is if he has one, being a co-owner and all.

In prospect news, Drouin and the Mooseheads are in the QMJHL finals, as is Jones and Winterhawks in the WHL.

If you are going to make this sort of post, at least be accurate. It was Johnson, McClement, and a pick (Siemens) for Stewart, Shattenkirk, and a pick (Rattie). Siemens and Rattie are about equal at this point, prospect wise. HF has them both rated at 7.5 C. Either could end up better than the other, but right now, pretty equal value.
They bring different things, but most teams would rather have Shattenkirk over Johnson. Just look at almost any of the projections for the US Olympic squad... people have Shattenkirk as definitely on, but EJ as a fringe possibility.
And Stewart is streaky, but still a 30 goal forward with size, whose defense has been solid under Hitchcock, while McClement is a 4th line forward you lost to free agency. So:

Rattie = Siemens
Shattenkirk > Johnson
Stewart > McClement

That is why most people say Avs lost the trade. Not because they forget about Siemens. But because they remember Rattie.
