Todd how come you say Henrique has struggled when he is a 23 and in a shortened season and as mentioned his sophomore season I think he has been playing great even though he has not put up as many points if anything Zajac has been a huge disappointment this season especially when you take into consideration his age and new contract he needs to do a lot of work Henrique will be fine

It doesn't matter if it's his sophomore season or if it's a shortened season. He hasn't produced nearly as much as was expected and his struggles are a huge factor in the Devils missing the playoffs. If you're playing top-6 minutes and have 3 points in almost 20 games, you're struggling. Period.

I'm sure he'll be fine next year, but he's been mediocre at best for the latter half of this season.

That could be said about the whole team outside of Marty and Kovy he is sixth in points on the team which could be a lot better but he is third in goals , third in pp goals , second in shorthanded goals and third in game winning goals he has been there in times of need but yes everyone could be better this year and he has 5 less games played the Zajac and only 4 more shots then him. what do you think happens with Clarky at the end of the season ? I like him when he plays his game and isn't afraid to get involved he becomes useless when he is trying to be a scorer, do you think Lou will use a buy out on anyone or is he to loyal and what has been you're favourite moment this season mine was the back to back wins against Pitt it's been a pleasure reading all season and I know you will find things to write about once the team is done to keep us coming in the dog days and P.S didn't mean to come off as a jerk lol

Todd, you have Henrique centering the third line and as a scratch. Who is going to play in his place, JJ?

Devils called up Eric Gelinas up as well as Sislo and Pesonen. All are scratched. Good thing Steve Sullivan is going to play.....

Pretty much the whole team has been a disappointment all season. I expect Henrique and Zajac to bounce back next year; too much talent there for these guys not to succeed here. I also hope we keep Clarkson as well; he's worked his tail off to get to this level and i really think he'll be back to contributing to the team once we get some normalcy back on the lines. Too many guys shifting around this year led to too much inconsistency.
It was fun while it lasted this year, just wasn't meant to be.

do it Lou.

We'll have to overpay for UFAs, but we need help. In a competing market..

Horton is obviously younger and will cost more, at only 27 years old, 25mil/5 years.
Ryder is 33 and will be cheaper. 8mil/2 years.. maybe 12mil/3 years..idk.
Stalberg at 27 at 10mil/4 years.

Detroit will want 28 year-old White back, offer him 18mil/5 years.

White will be nice to have to keep the D stable during the influx of youth..
Find a way to trade Tallinder to Buffalo for a 5th rounder. No one will take Volchenkov, plus he has the NTC (tho Lou's found a way before... ROLSTON).

Stalberg will be good to have as Boucher/Matteau develop and Elias slows down to 3rd line/PP minutes. Stalberg is FAST and has some skill and size (6'3, 210lbs). Good asset.

resign Clarkson 14mil/4 years
resign Zubrus 6mil/2 years
resign Elias 15mil/3 years
Resign RFA Lokti and Henrique to decent deals. They're both coming out of EL contracts.

If he's that bad, why not just use a compliance buy-out on Volchenkov? That's the easy fix for the problem, isn't it?

And, I think for the price you are willing to pay for a UFA defensemen, you can do better than White? I don't think you'll be to satisfied with him at that price, as he was a healthy scratch for the Red Wings for good portions of the year. Not a bad player, but nothing special either.

I was actually thinking that Horton might be a good target. Though I'm pretty sure B's fans aren't liking him too much ever since he came back from that concussion. He is probably just as good, if not slightly better than Clarkson. So if Clarky walks I wouldn't mind him or just sign him even if Clarky stays. Ryder has been doing really good the last couple of seasons, I wouldn't mind him at all. Like Stalberg he would be a good 3rd liner. We still need that top line LW desperately. We haven't gotten enough out of Kovy at even strength. No to Ian White. We don't need him, we have some NHL ready D men in the minors and Larsson should hopefully start getting PP time and take a big step in his development. Zidlicky on a 1 year deal isn't bad to me but he may want 2.

they look different tonight. they look like a team playing without pressure.. just playing to play.. which is what i've been saying for weeks. just shutup about the goal scoring and play hockey.
it's a ridiculous pathetic shame. This is a playoff team when healthy. watch them win out.. just watch! and that 1 dumb game against the rangers.. the 1 stupid goal off of Jagr's skate.. those 30 unproductive, and counterproductive powerplays..
depressing. we should be watching the Devils play like THIS in the playoffs and going on a run. if only. stupid.

I used to be pro-Zidlicky, but now I've come to feel that he's given up more chances than he's helped create. I think Larsson will fill that void just fine.. and Gelinas/Merrill aren't too far away.
If we can resign Clarkson, I'd love him as a 3rd line RW. THAT is what he always was and always will be. A grinder/scrapper/never shuts-up player with a moderate scoring ability. I'd be ok having him around 3.5. Ryder or Horton- both good bets. Horton will be tougher to pry from Boston, but his size/skill is attractive, so is being 27.. Ryder's experience and skill is attractive too. Stalberg is young and fast and serviceable.. would be a great addition. These guys are so much better than the spare parts recently acquired.
White was a healthy scratch? Then we can get him for less. I thought he was a solid 2-way dman. Is he better than Tallinder? We have kids on D.. but we don't really know how "ready" they are. Just because we need a better defenseman than we have now doesn't mean we need to bring up average D prospects (Urbom/Gelinas), or rush a maturing prospect in Merril.

as far as the top line LW.. I still think Zubrus-Lokti-Kovy could work. Maybe Boucher is the longterm answer. . but we don't know. Maybe Stalberg would work? I like him best on the 3rd line, but you never know. It'll cost us a lot to get a top line LW.. but with the added proven NHL scoring and experience of Ryder/Horton and Stalberg.. as opposed to Poni, D'Ags, Butler.. we'll be much better than this season.
