How is this going to work? Roller blades? Street ball style?

First ever outdoor game as in Las Vegas. It has less to do with ambient highs and more to do with refrigeration control. Ambient lows are actually more of a problem (brittle ice).

Also, outdoor games are nice events, but the games themselves usually suffer. Having more than 1 is a terrible idea.

I'm a fan of this. If it was only once a year, it would just keep being the same 7-10 teams on repeat, which in my opinion bogs it down more than having multiple games. 6 might be a little much, but in the end I think these games are fun and having more doesn't really hurt anything.

I'm curious how they'll market the whole thing. I'm guessing only Wings/Leafs will technically be called the Winter Classic, the other games will probably be called something else. I'd also guess the two games at Yankee Stadium will be marketed as one big event rather than two individual ones.

Incorrect -- 6 outdoor games but 1 Winter Classic

If these are all "Winter Classics" then we should change the name to identify them all as one by calling it something like, "The Winter Classic Series."

If only one of these is the actual, "Winter Classic," then the others should just be called outdoor games. I mean, how the hell are you going to get away with calling 2 games in March "Winter Classics?"

Other than the naming scheme, I don't care. Toronto's game will actually have ice, whereas at Dodger Stadium they may include a diving-board so players can really make use of the pond they've built in the diamond.

Good luck NHL.

I can understand why the NHL is adding more outdoor games; yes money does play a part but i think they're also trying to generate some interest in the league and get more people interested in the NHL.

Devs/Rags a week before the Super Bowl! Should be a real treat trying to get to the Stadium for that one!

I think some of this is about developing a lead into and out of Sochi -- two games just before and a couple after. NHL finally thinking about how to leverage some advantage out of the Olympics

Not having that thing that took away 3 months of games probably would have been a better solution.

Go Devils!

How sweet would it be for the Rangers to miss the playoffs, especially with Columbus holding their 1st round pick!

The lines during today's practice..

Dainius Zubrus-Adam Henrique-Ilya Kovalchuk
Patrik Elias-Travis Zajac-David Clarkson
Alexei Ponikarovsky-Jacob Josefson-Steve Sullivan/Matt D’Agostini
Ryan Carter-Stephen Gionta-Steve Bernier
Krys Barch-Andrei Loktionov-Tom Kostopoulos.

love this. Henrique HAS flourished in this role. We know Josefson can play. Lokti has been lacking.. and D'Ags can take a seat too. Solid throughout. Aside from what some here rant about, this is a playoff team that's been snakebitten. This roster can compete. .. if everyone was on their game. We may still be that top 6 forward away. Sullivan isn't it, Clarkson is a 3rd liner, Elias isn't a scorer. Pominville would've been perfect next to Zajac and Elias on that 2nd line RW

Salvador is still out, Volchenkov suspended. Urbom was the 7th man today.

Not according to TG. Says Urbom is just practicing as an extra defenseman. Also, Kovy practicing on the top line which hopefully means he's back tomorrow.

Tallinder, Tedenby, and Josefsson for Vanek. Doubt Buffalo would do that, but come on, Tyler Myers NEEDS Tallinder!

thats what i thought was going to happen at the deadline.. maybe not Josefson but a 2nd round pick + Teddy + Tallinder for Pominville. It made too much sense for Buffalo. Myers had his best season with Tallinder, Tallinder was great with Myers.. idk why that didn't happen

maybe we can put a similar package together for Vanek..

Buffalo robbed Minny blind with their trade. I wouldn't have wanted Lou to give up what Minny gave up to get him.
