Bad move. Not the acquisition, but rather the cost.

Honestly, considering the depth the top 50 this draft, terrible move. While the Rangers were missing a physical presence, and Clowe may bring that, what they REALLY could have used is an impact d-man, or big goal guy, since Gaborik isn't cutting it (Or, Tortorella is sucking the life out of players, or eh..f it, whatever) - could you have imagined Brad Richards playing with Nash AND Iginla. What could have been....

Tomorrow or tonight will be key; this can't be the only move made by the Rangers.

It's suspicious standing on its own, but if there are subsequent moves made, this deal might make more sense to us cynics.

Jarome Iginla scores in a game he's down three goals. It's like he never left Calgary.

I think Gaborik is moved around the draft to recoup some of the draft picks traded. I am not worried about the picks. Plus like you say, I don't think the Rangers are done. At least one forward gets moved.

In order for Torts system to work, he needs bigger, grittier players willing to get dirty. I think Clowe provides that. Plus I think his game will help spark the team, give it a pulse that has been lacking all year. Only time will tell, but I like the move

Problem is Gaborik's hit. If they wait too long -- See Gagne, Simon, and end up with Matt Walker and a 5th.

Iginla wanted no part of the Rangers but good guess though.

Possibly.

I don't know if I'm cynical per se, I just don't see the point of paying that price for a guy who has basically been carried around like dead weight by Logan Couture this year.

And, extending him seems like it would compound the issue, because he's apparently looking for a six, seven-year deal.

Understand, but reaction for me now is an overpayment. Hopefully, they do recoup some of the picks and he finds his scoring touch. Always liked him as a player and with Vancouver also in the mix, Rangers likely had to overpay.

Most I see them offering if two years, and if he doesn't want that at reasonable dollars, thanks and goodbye. He is no longer a top power forward or anything resembling one.

This move won't reveal itself right away, as far as the clear winner or loser is, unless the Rangers go on a Kings type run and win the cup this season.

I want to like this move but I need to see another move or two tonight or tomorrow.

Yea the cap hit is high, but it does only have 1 year left. In the off season teams will have a better idea where their cap stands and will have a plan of action. Hard to gauge now.

A proven 40 goal scorer who is going into his contract year will be valuable to someone

Katie Strang @KatieStrangESPN#NYR Can confirm that Clowe was ultimately given choice between Vancouver and Rangers. Chose Rangers. Trade call not yet done

Looks like both teams had good offers, wanted to be in NY

No way the Rangers lock this guy up for the length you suggested. He's been a better than average player up until this year. He has put up respectable numbers as a power forward type.

Despite the lack of evidence thus far, the Rangers do have good top end talent. They needed some more toughness in the lineup and they got it.
