It seems pretty selfish to me. Flyers may have the same type of problem with briere apparently may not waive his NMC if asked. Although he is hurt so it may no matter. |

Family comes first ALWAYS!! It sucks for the flames, but at the end of the day, his responsibility is to his family MUCH MORE than to the flames |

At this stage of his career... Family>hockey. |

why would you want him traded anyway, just a few months ago you were the one who said you wouldnt blow up the roster anyway.... |
|
|
|
Its also important to realize that, with so many goalies available, how much of a return do you really think calgary would have gotten......especially when you consider that he's really just a shadow of his former self. Maybe they get a 2nd and mid tier prospecf for him.....not exactly a franchise crippling loss |

Unless he has a NTC or NMC, then he has no choice. If they trade him and he refuses to report then they can suspend him and ultimately appeal the validity of his contract. I, as a fan, have had enough of these spoiled-rotten millionaire players. Time for the teams to start pushing back. What a joke. |

He's been so awful this year, including the first goal he allowed tonight, that nobody is going to be interested anyway. |

Given the current situation of the team, I have made it known several times that I feel as though Kiprusoff should stick around for a portion of the year next season in order to ease the role of Ramo, then be moved for assets to a contending team.
And I understand this family first thing...but we're talking about one more year on a contract that you signed. He wasnt forced to sign the contract, he should honour the last year, allow a move to be made, get his team (which I should hope he is grateful towards) a few assets then call it a career. Perhaps return for a final month and retire the next year.

CGY should trade iggy in some package for Bernier in some package. CGY's needs a goalie badly. Sorry (not really), but Kipper's done. |

Who is gonna want a 35+, 6 million dollar goalie, who has a GAA of 3.5, and a sv% under .875 |

I agree but one could ague that the nature of the business being the NHL is that this could happen to anyone regardless of age and past achievements , if he cared about his family so much then he should of asked for an NTC that would of lasted until the end of his contract. |

No, but anything is better than nothing at this point. You take as much as you can get...its not like the Flames are currently sitting pretty like the Penguins with a ton of assets at their disposal. |

Or taken a cushy office 9-5 job where a several year contract isnt something that you sign and agree to. |

You telling me a team (like) the Leafs wouldnt give up some mid level prospects/picks for a year of Kipper? |

Having him on the team, mentoring a young goalie, is far more valuable then what he'd get them in a trade. He's been terrible, he has very little value, just keep him. Goalie depth is never a bad thing |

I fully agree with his sentiment and think he's earned the right to make such a threat.
That said, it should be private. Whoever leaked this did a disservice to Kipper and the Flames. |

I don't. I think they'd likely want a younger guy, like bernier or bishop, who are cheaper and better, and fit better with their roster. Failing that, there are 3-4 real solid ufa's this summer.
There are so many goalies available that i dont think kipper has any real value |

Right, but as I mentioned in the blog, this is likely a precursor to him packing his bags after this year. |

You sign a contract, honor it. It's a business. You don't like it, quit. |

Maybe. I still think it's not a big deal. I really don't think anyone would have wanted him. And hey, if he retires, good bye 6mil cap hit. |

Family always plays a part in any decision made my players in that situation.
My brother played minor pro & in Europe for 20yrs & his wife had a huge say in which team & city they wanted to live in & play for.
People sometimes don't get it & I've said it many times before a player just doesn't sign anywhere just to win, he consults with his family about the options & that's the bottom line.
So if a player consults with his family & the wife has no desire to live in Edmonton or Calgary or Winnipeg or Dallas or wherever, it's not going to happen.
I can tell you that's a big reason why Getzlaf resigned in Anaheim, his wife is from orange county & there's no way she's moving anywhere without him consulting her.
Let me see, Anaheim or Edmonton, Anaheim or Winnipeg - yeah thought so!! |
