Nothing is definitive....however the fact his young daughter is currently enrolled in school in Russia and he has publicly stated how much he enjoyed playing there during the lockout leads many to believe the writing is on the wall that he will call it quits after next season in the NHL and play out his career in the KHL.

Would LOVE Chris Stewart on this team, guy is exactly the kind of player that they've been missing for years. With his play lately I'm not too sure St. Louis will be looking to move him though, especially given they gave up Johnson to get him and lived through his poor year last year. If they were moving him, I could see it happening in the off season rather than at the deadline anyway.

He liked playing in the KHL during the lockout so everyone assumes it's a done deal. Lidstrom said the same thing (about going home and finishing his career in Sweden) though and played in Detroit until he was 42.

I don't think Pavel will play here that long but I'm sure the Wings will be happy to re-sign him on 1 year deals until he decides he really wants to retire (like they did with Lidstrom). My guess is he'll probably play 2-3 more years after his current contract runs out.

Wings should be prepared if he doesn't though.

That is a fair point about Lidstrom, but my gut tells me Pavel will be different. Nevertheless, that is why many believe the Wings intend to keep Filppula as an insurance measure.....although Nyquist and Calle Jarnkrok could eventually get the opportunity if Datsyuk does in fact leave.

If they can resign Filppula at a reasonable price (3 - 4 million a year range) they should do it. If they can't they should see if they can get some immediate help for him (or decent prospects but that's unlikely).

They shouldn't give him $5.5+ million a year just because Calgary or Buffalo will if he hits FA though.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Fillpula and maybe some depth guys or picks for Iginla or Vanek. Probably wishful think though.

Nevermind Vanek, I thought he was UFA this year. Not worth the $7mill cap hit. And no I don't think the Wings should trade for Miller unless they think Howard is going to demand more than Miller's $6.25 million a year. Regehr might be useful though if the Wings got some prospects or picks back in the deal.

It appears Howard likely to re-sign at around $5M per or so.....Miller out of the equation. Also with the Wings moving into same division as Buffalo, the Sabres would never deal him to Detroit.

Yeah that's another rumor people like to throw out there that doesn't make any sense. Had Miller gone UFA a few years ago I think the Wings would have pursued him but that ship passed a long time ago.

That seems to be a catch 22 for the Wings this year...Western teams won't want to make the Wings better this year and Eastern teams won't either because they will have to face them more next year. Bottom feeders in the West are likely the only ones that will deal with the Wings since they won't have a shot at the playoffs. Wings likely won't be able to do much trading until the summer.

If Holland could somehow get Myers out of Buffalo he should do it. Buffalo at this point shouldn't be too picky who they deal with right now if it improves their team. Plus Holland and Darcy Regier i think are friends which might make them more willing to deal with each other.

Good. I hope Ovechkin and the rest follow him back home. Take away the instigator and this game will go back to the glory days!

Well... this game turned into a complete trainwreck. The only good thing out of it was watching that beautiful goal by Nyquist. That was a goal-scorer's goal. You will never see Abdelkader or Cleary every make a goal like that..... and yet now they've moved Abdelkader up to the 1st line (insanity). Good luck with that line combination Mr. Babcock.

That 3rd goal Howard let in was terrible... bad goal to give up. I also noticed he's giving up rebounds tonight. Howard's inconsistency is getting annoying. This team still needs a shake-up.

Howard was the least of the Wings problems tonight. Lashoff was crap and cost the Wings a couple of goals. Smith also looked like bamby trying to walk for the first time out there. Cleary was back to his old self giving the puck away and killing any play his line was trying to make. They all kept missing the net on prime scoring chances. Kindl keeps shooting pucks into pads of players covering him on the point. Nobody really stood out in a good way for the Wings tonight.

Yes... good point.

Hoping they keep Nyquist up in Detroit the rest of the year AND bring Tatar back up. Noticed Emmerton had a horrible giveaway along the boards that almost cost them a goal. Still think they should package Filppula and Emmerton and try to get either a top 4 defenseman or a power forward for the top line. Fils is not worth 5 million a season (which is what I hear he's asking for his next contract). Wonder how much Clowe would cost from San Jose... ? I don't want Holland giving up any of the top prospects though.

I think it's pretty obvious that Bert is done for the season. What I'm concerned will happen is that Samuelsson will be back soon.. taking more ice time from the young guns from GR. That would be a waste.

Chances are they'll both be down there when Samuelsson gets back, gotta trot that big UFA pickup out there to save the day. The Abdelkader on the top line has become some kind of obsession it seems, it clearly hasn't generated poop other than 2 goals that just bounced off of him, at a loss for words about it now. Unreal.

I'd like it if they kept Filppula but not at 5 mil+ so if he really wants that then trade him. Not sure Fil + Emmerton would get a power forward or a good top 4. Would likely need to add a good prospect and/or pick instead of Emmerton. Don't think Emmerton has a lot of value to other teams.

Unless there are more injuries, Nyquist and/or Andersson will likely be going back down at some point. Wings aren't going to waive any of their vets aside maybe from Huskins.

It's because Abdelkader is pulling the piano for Datsyuk to play it...while Franzen sits on it or Cleary pulls it in the wrong direction.

not to troll... but anyone play inline? I'm in the market for new bearings and have read various opinions.
People seem to really like Bones Reds, but I won't spend the 75 on the Swiss where I can find Swiss cheaper with Mission, Bevo and Labeda. If I did Bones, i'd get the 8pack of regular Super Reds for 22bucks. Bevo makes a 16 pack of Swiss for 45, Labeda for 42, Mission for 40 and Swiss LE for 48.

I probably won't notice the difference and I understand maintenance is important to longevity. One writer said he had Reds, Bevo and Missions and found the Missions to be just as fast but much longer lasting. Any info is appreciated.

The Wings were the better team last night, they just couldn't burry it.....even Pav missed an open net.

Minnesota had a hot goalie and took advantage of the 2 terrible calls ......still dont understand why Kroner got a double minor?

Cant see getting a #2 defenseman this year.....lets hope Holland has been on the horn to Suster and Dekeyser
