Such an unhappy state of affairs. Bill, do you think we can realistically turn it around this season?

I suspect the answer to this question becomes far more clear after the next game against the Devils.

Not if they can't put together 60 minutes of effort on a consistent basis. Both of those teams showed last night why they are struggling. Two mediocre clubs trying not to lose.

I cut out in the 2nd period when it was 3-1 and expected other than a 3-2 win.
This team is just bad. They might just be good enough to miss out on Seth Jones.

Hopefully Briere, but Bryz will play just well enough to get a stay of execution.

Only 5 points ahead of the last place team in the league, Florida Panthers.

Sadly we have 1 more point then columbus.

Unless they pack it in for the rest of the year, getting jones is almost impossible.

Even if they did finish last, they'd lose the rigged lottery to Edmonton as long as they finish in the bottom 14.

I hate to say it... but our Flyers are playing like a 10th place team...

our true colours will come shining through in the 2nd half of the season!

And if I'm not mistaken, that FL team has recently beaten us.

Other times when this team has struggled this year we came out and had games like the 7-0 win against the Islanders or the 7-1 against Florida earlier in the year. They get up big and the other team pretty much fades away. This builds a false sense that they have corrected issues.

I'm hoping yesterday's win, which was a little more realistic, is actually better for the team and they can see where when they start to lay off a team, it comes right back to bite them....BUT....if they recognize that they are slipping into a bad pattern and correct it, they can still come out on top.

beating the sabers 3-2 is nothing to be proud about, it just shows were not a top tier team but better then most out of contention teams

I hope so. I remember when games like last night's could be chalked up to playing down to the competition.

As DFT pointed out at the end of the last thread, hopefully the close score is a baby step in the right direction.

Yesterday's game should have been a 7-0 or 7-1 game much like the Isles and Panthers game....the Sabres are terrible and are in such disarray. The Flyers have lost their swagger, and look like a young and stupid team.

I am not one to bag a season for any reason, but I am also a realist and this team with either miss the playoffs or just barely make it in, not because of some miracle turnaround, but because a few other teams take a nose dive quickly. If they even make the playoffs I can see a Boston or Montreal team just shred them in the first round.

The realism is to build towards next year, not blow the team up, they do have a ton of talent, it is just bringing in some other good pieces to make it all work.

The Flyers won the special olympics last night. You cheer for them because it's nice to see people succeed in spite of their handicaps but you know you'll never see them in the regular olympics.

The Flyers were a Schenn save from an OT shootout loss. We are all thinking this. Bryz is money in one - on - one situations (for the other team).

No reason to buy out Bryz. He is playing well enough. And considering you'd have to give up additional assets to get another goalie in here he is certainly playing well enough to not have to worry about that.

If it's me I buy out Briere(if he isn't traded) and you hold on to the 2nd buyout in hopes, as small as the chance may seem, that Pronger can get cleared for play and be bought out. If Bryz plays very poorly and you still have the second buyout right before it expires then that's when I would consider a Bryz buyout. Right now the guy has had one bad year in an otherwise pretty solid career. Let's not poop ourselves over it.

I think you have it exactly right.

Bryzgalov has played pretty well. Right now he appears to be fatigued. Flyers need a top back up that provide some timely relief. No need to buy out Brzgalov. If it does prove necessary, it can be done after next season.
