Q mentioned that Hossa was really close to playing on Wednesday night. I suspect that he'll be ready to go tonight. |

What about a David Clarkson from New Jersey?
Rumor has it he can be had for a top pick + prospect... Sounds like New Jersey wants to make sure they get something in return this time instead of watcing another top player depart in free agency... He would fit in well on that top line, IMO... |

Are the Flyers ever sellers? That seems to go against the grain for Holmgren...
If they are sellers (and I'm perfectly aware that this is in some alternate universe), then Wayne Simmonds, please. |

The Devils are still in the playoff hunt, so I doubt that Clarkson is available. |

I thought the same thing at first; but it makes some sense, since they just lost Parise last summer and Clarkson is an UFA this coming summer... Sounds like they are having no luck with an extension... |

With each passing game this season, I find myself harboring more hope that the 'Hawks find some way to keep Stalberg.
I'm not delusional to think that he's a priority re-sign when looking at players like Leddy and Kruger who need new deals. It's also obvious that he's not part of the plans for Q's top six. But that guy has taken some giant strides this year. There's been a lot of talk this week about players watching and emulating Hossa, and I think he's a huge example of this. So much stronger on the puck than the last two seasons, and his vision has improved significantly.
I have to say, unless some unseen superstar deal is on the horizon, I really hope Stalberg isn't the part of any deadline deals - I think his presence on that third line will be a big part of a deep playoff run. If he (or is negotiating rights) are moved at on around draft day, then fine. But unless something quite impressive can be had for him, I think he's too important to the team's cup chances this season. |

John Jaeckel: Hawk Trade Deadline Preview - John Jaeckel
As Hawk faithful we are fortunate to have your analysis
The trade blog is more than excellent
I would never trade Leddy
But the list of players that could come our way and the trading partners make perfect sense
Hoping Hossa plays tonight |

John Jaeckel: Hawk Trade Deadline Preview - John Jaeckel
Good Blog JJ, thxs for the write-up
From the players you mention I going to jump on the Nate Thompson bandwagon. I think he would look great on Chicago.
From the teams you mention that have an history with the Blackhawks I would say that Smithson from Florida would also be a nice addition or have you ever heard any interest in Bryan Little from the Jets?
What would you think it would be a right deal to offer a player like Leddy? Would you consider it in a deal for a rental or more of a long term player like a 2c? |

Dream weavers:
Clarkson is not on the block & the flyers are not "sellers."
There is a much better chance the Rangers are letting go than the flyers...
I think you missed one player on Calgary & one player on Winnipeg roster that the be Hawk may ventually in low-key pursuit of.
unless Tamp falters out of contention, I don't even see them dealing Thompson. Thompson has never been a plus player
And I tend to agree with the experts who say this is going to be a relatively quiet trade dealine in terms of defensive help. In the past teams out of contention, readily launched their 5 -7 defenders with expiring contracts for 3rds and even 2nds or even both (Oduya & Nicklas Grossmann).
GM's found out that in free agency, they had to vastly over-pay for bottom end defenders (and forwards for that matter).
Most are willinging to give raises and keep the reliable help they like, instead of making the business decision to "get something" for them.
"Business" has basicially changed to paying out inside the organizations even at the lower end, because outside help is now more expensive and may not fit with the core group already in place.
That coupled by the nice selection of options even in the third round of this draft class means you could get a nice long term find in the draft, but even the buyers will be cautious to not over pay in those 2nd & 3rds.
I predict less few first rounders switch hands between now and the draft, even in possible trades where the flip picks.
and for the folks who just can't resist posting their dream trade scenarios, restrain from mention any guys who would be considered top 8 on their PRESENT team, unless their team is in full blown re-build...
'cause they ain'y happening...
for example,
The Ducks are NOT trading any good players. |

Leddy for Little: no nay never...
no regular hawk playing NOW is going anywhere unless the Red sea opens and Bowman sees a Moses' type leader sitting there ripe for plucking.
and if stan does come up with THAT kind of deal, I will even read "Tab's" article on how "Bowman best GM in hockey?"
(which to me smells and reads like hokey...)
this is more about...

Just don't buy the replicas from the NHL online store unless you want screened on numbers.

he really wants the Danault sweater that he is seeing in the playoffs.
(Put #12 on it since Danault's #21 is in the rafters with Stan Mikita's name on it.)

Who would they sell? Briere and Kimmo both have NMCs. Everyone else is young with good long term contracts.... And nobody wants Bryz Lol. |
