Even if Atkinson didn't get anything on the board , man did I like his dangle in the back of the Avs net in the first period, I liked the Calvert-Anisimov-Atkinson line, they really created some offense when needed.

You can thank the 10million dollar character man for that own goal. I actually thought he was going to become a blue jacket before that calgary mess started

I like Atkinson too. He's shifty and creates chances for his line. Calvert is a hard working winger and AA can snipe it when he gets some open ice.

That was unlucky for Colorado. But if you're talking about O'Reilly and perhaps being overpaid, I can't argue with that. I'm shocked Colorado matched only because they'll have to qualify him at $6.5MM or somewhere close depending on how the new CBA sets out qualifying offers. Now of course Duchesne and Landeskog are both going to be pointing at $6.5MM as starting points for their own negotiations when their deals expire. Plus chances are at least good that Calgary misses the playoffs so that first round pick would likely have been quite valuable.

I dont know if Dutch and Landy will be screaming about money next summer. They seem like team players first, I see dutch and are more likely to take home team discounts. Duchene getting a Benn/Kane type deal is more likely (5 years @ 5.25)

I believe if they can settle on a new long term deal before they have to qualify him, it can be dramatically lower than that 6.5m a season, its not automatic from how I understand it. But if he listens to his greedy agents again, he will just do a 1 year qualifying to hit that 6.5 again.

Will Colorado be willing to do Landeskog and Duchesne at $5MM each and keep O'Reilly at $6.5MM? That'll be somewhere around 25% off the cap in a couple of years and I don't know if Colorado is going to be a cap ceiling team or not. Plus they have Parenteau and David Jones making $4MM and Erik Johnson and Hejda acconting for another $7MM through 2014 - 2015. That's $31.5MM in seven players and doesn't leave a lot of room for the rest of the roster in theory. It can be done but Colorado might not want to go that route.

O'Reilly will be traded by next deadline, Jones and Hedja will be bought out this summer. Stastny will get the low ball offer to resign. Sherman at trading is questionable, but he is a master of low balling contracts and cap management.

You don't like Hejda? He was solid here and though I only saw him yesterday with the Avalanche I thought he was fine.

I don't know if they can trade O'Reilly by next deadline. He isn't eligible to be dealt for one year or until next February 28. The trade deadline could be earlier in the year. You might have to wait until the draft in 2014.

Thats the rumour of why the matched so quickly, not knowing the deadline, they wanted to match as quickly as possible. Deadline day is always on a monday which would be March 3rd 2014. February 24th might be too early for a deadline so I think he would be tradeable by then.

Hejda is still a victim of our poor dcore here, he coughs up the puck and creates turn overs like all of them. Zanon and the O'Bs are worse but how cheap this franchise can be, they will keep the terrible cheaper d and buy out the ok more expensive ones.

How is Ryan Johansen playing and what line is he playing on? What does his future look like? Will he be a true number one center down the road, he is only 20 now.

Thankls for the compliment.

I would think a mid-level prospect or a 3rd round pick might be enough for Boll. He's a useful 4th liner who is also a decent fighter. But he's not going to play more than 6 - 8 minutes a night. That being said I don't think that the Jackets will shop Boll but if a team were to call and offer something they liked they'll pull the trigger.

Johansen was with the team to start but was sent down to the AHL after struggling some. If the last couple of games are any indication the demotion was effective. He's been involved in the play and scored a great goal against Chicago to send that one to OT the other day. He has that kind of skill that he could be a decent #1 or excellent #2. I see his potential ceiling as that of a 60 - 70 point scorer. But the key is he has size and is good on draws so should be able to develop into a very good two-way player too.
