Why would Dallas do that? Makes no sense for them.

I think you overrate Markov. The Stars are going with a lot of youth this year and trading their number one defensive prospect and their number 1 for a 34 year old Defensive man which may lead to a play off spot. No way, I am sure Canidians fans would jump on this. GM Joe would be run out of Dallas if this happened. Big Rig and number 1 I want Subban.

34 year old defenseman making 6M per year and hasn't played a full season since 2008/9 for top defense prospect and a 1st - NO!

Though to convince me that big D is going with a lot of youth when signing Jagr, Whitney, etc.

But i agree, Markov probably worth 1st with mid prospect.

Jagr and Whitney are meant to be stopgap while the players drafted over the last 3 years have a chance to develop. By the way, even with these two players the Stars are in the bottom 13 for average roster age

Well, Markov can help you win while youngers develop.

He might help this year but not worth trading top prospects and high draft choices for - Jager and Whitney did not cost the Stars any players. Just out of curiosity, why the big desire to trade Markov - don't like his cap hit next year or his lack of games played over the last few years?

According to NHL Numbers the Oilers average age is 27.184, to Dallas' 27.725. Would your consider Edmonton a veteran team? The Stars have started 12 players on the roster this year in their freshman or sophomore NHL seasons. (Bachman, Nilstorp, Larsen, Vincour, Jordie Benn, Oleksiak, Sceviour, Roussel, Garbutt, Dillon, Smith, Eakin).

We already have Subban and Diaz is coming along really well to. And next year we got Beaulieu who will be a beast offensively.

Markov is expendable for us. He struggled a bit off late on the stats side but log alot of minutes. He plays, pp, pk and a lot of time 5 on 5. If he plays like that all year, his cap hit isn't bad at all.

I just asked because you guys seems to need a pp quaterback. It would make the difference between finishing 8-9-10 and probably miss the playoffs or finishing 5-6-7.

No i know, but if GM brought Jagr and Whitney, its somehow to win games and make playoffs. Well, your team need pp if you want to make playoffs. Markok is still one of the best to quarterback and i dont think his contract is a problem for the young guns.

Now i know you think the idea of getting Markov for the powerpaly is good. But what would a fair return for him?

If we don't make the playoffs there is a good chance Jagr, Whitney, Morrow, Ryder, and Robidas are traded for youth/picks. Joe is halfway through his rebuild of this team. Players like Dillon, Smith, Benn, and Oleksiak are the future of this team.

If you guys want to dump Markov and make room for your younger players Joe might be interested but comments from the owner and Joe indicate they aren't interested in mortgaging the future for a sixth to ninth place finish in the conference.

They signed Jagr and Whitney to be role models, get a few seats sold, and get to the salary floor.
