Tough call I don't like to think Dion has a ton of trade value but he is their captain and im sure it is always a tough decision to make trading your captain but at the same time what is A-trains value I can't see it being that great either they both can throw a mean body check Dion is probably better offensively and easily more mobile but can he be as reliable defensively as A-train and is Toronto a place he would way his no trade to go being a long time Sen

I don't like that trade for Phaneuf he hasn't been too great last couple years and we are pretty solid defensively. I'd still like to trade a D-man + for a solid 2nd/3rd line winger.

I don't think we need D anyway. Larsson has looked fantastic, Greene is stepping up, and Fayne, Salvador, and ATrain provide plenty of a physical, shutdown presence. Let's use our pieces to get a top 6 winger.

My thoughts exactly move for another forward before making a move for a D

Zidlicky hasn't done poop and has been playing less and less minutes. Greene is doing his job of running the PP and doing better than him. If Greene and Larsson keep this up, I think we should dump Zidlicky and have Larsson play the other point. Fixes our defensive dilemma, and if the right deal comes along, trade Tallinder too.

Phanerozoic is not needed here and we don't need to absorb that salary. If we're unloading our assets and tradeable pieces it needs to be to fix our needs at forwards, hopefully a LW to play with Zajac and Kovalchuk to move Zubrus with JJ and Butler, if Zubrus isn't seriously injured.

Stevens might like Phaneuf since they play a similar style, but I wouldn't want NJ to change any of their d-men unless they can unload Zidlicky and get a better PP d-man. Right now, why do it? They're winning. Their d-corps shouldn't change.

A-train is a dream depth d-man who blocks shots and plays an extremely steady game. Dion is struggling with his defensive game and would probably become a liability; a trade like that would break more than it fixes.

As for a scoring winger... we might have one in Butler. A new number nine. He has me convinced that he deserves a shot.

Nice to see Matteau get a goal... great play by Greene.

Greene made that pass to Matteau, not Larsson.

Just a little note, Greene was out for every Devils goal. Primary assists on two of them and then a smart pass to Kovalchuk on Henrique's.

I remember when people were saying we trade Andy Greene. I would like to take this time to laugh directly into your face.

I'll pass on phaneuf. We have a very good team dynamic going on here, like last year. I do want phaneuf and his dominant personality to throw off the chemistry. We need a forward more than an upgrade on D.
I completely agree about zidlicky. He's playing his role well and I don't want him traded. It's really nice having him, Greene and Larsson being capable on both ends of the ice.
I still think tallinder>Fayne but fayne is younger and tallinder has the 3mil cap hit and will undoubtbly fetch more in a trade.

Can Matteau stick on the top line? Zubrus-josefson-Butler? Is that really going to be the answer? He plays with a lot more poise and confidence than Palmieri or Tedenby did.. Idk what happens when Zubrus is back. So nice to see all these positives and wins. Hope moose steals one tomorrow and we dump 4 past Vokoun!

... Sick of these penalties. It's really putting a huge emphasis on special teams, but it a bit ridiculous.

Yes I would do that trade for sure. Though I don't see us trading for a D man.

Naw Toronto wouldn't go for that. Volchenkov is even more of a drag than he is, it'd make a bad situation worse for them. Maybe someone like Fayne would spark their interest because he has room to grow and a cheap contract. But I like Fayne... so no.

I don't get all the hate Zidlicky gets. He brings excellent vision and passing ability, and we are a different team with him and Kovy manning the point on the PP.

Greene on the PP> Zidlcky on the PP

I don't hate him, bt he's here for his offensive production and his PP contributions and Greenes outplaying him in both. Larsson, with the way he's playing, might play better there.

I'd rather it stay the way it is because with Zidlicky getting pp time and less even strength, and Larsson getting mostly even strength and less pp, sooo, the better defender is on the ice when we need defense, winning.

Greene has been terrific lately and has been producing a lot over the last 5 games. Zidlicky had a good start to the season and has since cooled. Still think Zidlicky is our offensive dman. Doubt Larsson will get a legit chance on the PP this season, unless the PP struggles or someone gets hurt. If he was there though I would expect some mistakes that would lead to SH goals against. Kid just needs more experienced before he takes a big step in producing offence.

Am I the only one who thinks Zidlicky has been playing very well overall? Right behind Greene he's been our most offensive D-man and I've really liked him quarterbacking the power play. I hate to say it but the defenseman who has disappointed me the most by far so far this year is Sal. I find I'm noticing him turning the puck over or missing defensive plays far more than him stopping opposition chances or getting involved in the offense.

Nothing personally against him but I still think Kovy should be captain.

I missed most of today's game, but from what I've seen overall Salvador has been solid. I think he has been one of our best D men this season.

And after the poop Kovy pulled before the lockout ended, there is no reason he should be captain. The captain doesn't have to be your best player. Salvador is a leader, and clearly a guy the players respect. I have no problem with the selection.

eh, I don't think the Kovy thing was a big deal.. at all.
I like Salvador as captain. I think giving the C to Kovalchuk would've been too much right off the bat. It took a while for Parise to get it, and it was clear he was the guy. I like Salvador with it because he's been here longer than most guys (feels weird to say that), he's a vet with experience (which I like), and he's clearly a leader in the room and a guy everyone respects. There are a lot of leaders in there but I like Salvador's consistent work ethic and his demeanor. We'll see if he lasts the duration of that contract tho. After that we'll see.. could be Kovalchuk, could be Henrique, Zajac, Greene... we'll see how players mature and how the dynamics change over time.

Even with the goal, Matteau only got 6:48 ice time. Butler had 12:43. . he looked pretty good. Zajac looks flat and not confident. During the replay of the game tonight I was watching him closely and he seems off. Hope its not the contract.. Clarkson with 20:24 tonight. I think its safe to say Zubrus will go back on the top line when he returns. Barch plays well for an enforcer.. well.. a "spark" guy.. because he's not really enforcing anything, the refs run that comedy show. Maybe Matteau will get some games with Josefson-Butler.. It's definitely not the most responsible line tho. Maybe Butler gets a look on the top line. He's fast and hustles to get back on D.. doesn't quite seem to have top line smarts tho.. which is why I like Zubrus there. Idk. Nice to see Butler contributing.

I agree. I think he's been reliable in his own end too.
