Cats vs caps should be good game I think the panthers are starting to play well. And the caps need to play a full game should be interesting to see what happens.

kinda what happens when the team is built around 1 superstar who then loses his game

kovy got his first points in 5 games and first goal in 6 last night but the devils have found ways to get to 6-1-3 because other lines have chipped in while everyone including kovy has made sure to be responsible defensively and to make their opportunities count

it seems with the caps that if ov and backstrom are not scoring then the team has no shot

They are a good team, as shown in the first period of yesterday's game, but when something goes wrong, everything goes to hell. Caps owned the 1st and 3rd periods, but they just dug to deep a hole during that 2nd period. I do question Oates decision to pull neuvirth after those 2 goals

Really looks like Oates is the new Maclean. I really feel for you guys cause NJ went though the same thing 2 years ago, just gotta hope your GM pulls the trigger on firing faster than Lou did

Isnt MacLean doing awesome things with the Ottawa team right now ?
Maybe it isnt the coach....

This other guy named Boudreau did great with this same bunch for a while... till they got so full of themselves.

Now they wont play for ANY coach...

have not watched the Caps much, but even though he scored, OV seemed much more passive than I ever remember him, especially physically, until the end when the game was well out of reach. And to be fair, Mike Green and Backstrom were almost invisible, and Mcphee should know better than to trust the goaltending to 2 largely unproven netminders.

I was at the game, and thought the Caps played a great road period in the first. I think the Dupuis goal was really the killer last night...once that went in, you could almost smell the blood in the water. I don't see how Mcphee survives this.

he is talking about carolina's assistant coach, used to be devils head coach and devils top scorer in franchise history till elias took that spot this year

same last names as the sens head coach

Just because Oates was a great player, does not make him a great coach. It seems that more of the role players become better coaches.

The problem wasn't Boudreau and the problem is not Oates. The problem lies in the locker room and the guy wearing the C. It's time to cut bait and great rid of the bloated ego and contract.

there has to be more to it than the system and new coaching staff.maybe to many egos?Ovi needs to take a long hard look in the mirror..players only meeting?start shipping people out and find guys who will bleed for each other,i dont know.but as a sth for the past fifteen years,im really struggling with this. its down right embarrassing with the talent on this team!!!!i may even break out the brown bag on sat. night...

Why I'm hopeful Nonis builds a "team" in toronto (think Detroit/Boston) rather than top heavy franchise buit around one or two superstars.
If you put all your eggs in one Basket for the long haul, you better hope that basket doesn't rot.

No matter how good it looked at the time, I have yet to see one of the hi $ long term "cap circumeventing" deals actually work out for the team.
Starting with Depietro in NY, through Ovi, andLuongo.
Minny may already be regretting putting all their money on Parise/Suter.
Even Croseby with Pittsburg, as good as he is, with his health issues, lets see how that deal looks by 2025. Pitts has an interesting conundrum coming up with Malkin a pending UFA in 2014.

If the problem is in the dressing room, the last guy you want in there is Dion. And, Backstrom gets a lot more coming back than one of the leagues most overrated Dman and a Bozak. Nick is in a low cycle in his game but the Caps aren't going to give him away and then watch him get back 90-100 point seasons. Worst time to trade is when you're desperate...unless you're the one shopping.

Plenty of Cap room for Malkin, not going to be an issue at all. Letang on the other hand might be tricky

Just send Ovechkin and Carlsson to Detroit Would be fun to watch Datsyuk and OV play on the same line. This would also fix the Wings PP...too bad there's no chance it's going to happen.

Do you really think you can add that contract, and stay under the cap? Also the cap is going down next year. If Detroit goes after Ovi, you know they will want Datsyuk, plus you will need to ship a contract that is almost as high.

I did the math and they could add both OV and Carlsson if they dumped Samuelsson and Quincey and if Filppula and Howard don't get huge raises. Just adding Ovechkin would be easy for the Wings. They will have 18 million under the new cap for next year with Filppula, Brunner and Howard as the 3 main UFAs to keep and a couple of RFAs that likely won't be getting much of a raise since most haven't done much to deserve one yet. So yes it would be possible cap wise but i don't see Holland giving up what Washington would likely want for him.

Yeah, he is already at an 8.7 mil cap hit. It's not going to go up much, if any, with his new contract.

Good old Toronto fans, overvaluing their players and undervaluing the players they are trying to trade for.

your star players just don't care enough and think they should be able to win games on talent minus any hard work. When Ovie was tearing up the league, he did it because he wanted the personal recognition and the personal accolades. Now it seems that since he's been there and done that, it's not all that important to him anymore.

I used to laugh when we would have this crosby vs ovie debate of who was better.

the difference is Crosby neeeeeeeeeds to win. He craves that stanley cup and all his greatness comes from his pursuit of that goal

Ovie's greatness came from a desire to show off and be recognized. Once he got used to it, his desire fell off dramatically.

Kind of like winning the lottery. For the first year it's going to be (frank)ing awesome but you eventually get used to it and if you don't have any personal goals to obtain in life, you're going to be bored eventually.
