I haven't really studied Ruff's player usage H/A enough this year to make a point about him, but at what point does attention turn to the front office? Is Darcy Regier not the one responsible for assembling the talent that Ruff's forced to use? Is it really mismanaged talent, or a lack of quality?

I don't really know the answer, but if I had to guess, I'd probably go w/ the latter.

You can't really knock the talent on the first line. 2nd line of Foligno - Ennis - Stafford have the potential to perform at a high NHL caliber level if you look at the end of last year (they at least have the ability). Then there is plenty of potential for line 3 in Ott- Grigo - Leino ( a fine 3rd line on any other squad ) 4th line is the 4th line. I really don't think it is the talent he has to work with, but a shakeup can't hurt.

Theory that is probably way off but:

Money given by a new owner with good intentions, spent on players that showed promise but either regressed or didn't improve to where they projected to. Owner not happy with outcome, moves by GM become over scrutinized. Ryan Miller/Vanek can look so good that at times the team looked like it was moving foreword when they really aren't.

How do you motivate players if you treat your star players the worst while treating your plugs, like Ellis, the best, even when said star players are lighting it up?

Ruff has been there too long and it is long past time for a change.

When compete levels and energy levels are the same, which means not great consistently, that falls on the coach.

Further, at what point do you change whatever supposed "system" you are coaching when it becomes crystal clear that it is not working with the current roster of players? Never?

Ultimately, these two have been together long enough that this is a false dichotomy. Is Ruff misusing the players Darcy gives him, or is Darcy giving him the wrong players?

What's the point of continuity when these two apparently can't communicate?

And you get a new GM, you might as well get a new coach. Then just fire Lindy? What does it say about Darcy that he's kept him this long if he's a problem?

Just clean house.

They dont show up this game and then show up next game - dont show up - show up - Coaching is an issue. I believe that the talent is there.

No. Name Adams or Patrick as interim, jump on the next qualified candidate who comes available.

From Bucky's article today....

Lindy Ruff has argued that Vanek doesn't kill penalties, which is true. Vanek has been on the ice for all of 2:38 with the Sabres a man down. Nearly half came late in the game Sunday with the Sabres trailing by a goal. It doesn't explain why Hecht played three more minutes at even strength and Foligno nearly four more minutes than Vanek did.

I've never really been a Ruff hater, but I'm also getting tired of the same exact problems year after year. Sooner or later, Stafford will get hot, and that's when he should get traded. It happens every year, he scores a hat-trick in a 6-0 game....Ennis? not really sure about him either. And obviously, We could probably package up a D-man with one or both of them. If the coach "Ain't going anywhere" I still need to a some personnel change. These guys just aren't cutting it, and Hecht is now on the second line as everyone predicted.....Despite Lindy saying "He knew his role" (as a 4th line center) when he signed his contract.

Any amount of time is too long for Lindy.
