Excellent blog Glen, look forward to your blogs on HB. I agree Mason was pretty good last night despite the loss. I am waiting for Bobrovsky to clearly take over the number one with a string of good games. He needs to start the majority of games and and if he does well it will give him the confidence he needs to be even better. Is Mason a restricted free agent or UFA at the end of this year? Jack Johnson is turning into the leader of this team and the D is pretty solid really. We just need some of the lines to gel and maybe score a few goals. Brassard is due or should be sent packing as his time in Columbus is running out. Umberger has to be better as he seems to have lost all of his scoring power for whatever reason. Hope they can start scoring a few and maybe come up with a somewhat decent first line. Right now they are just four lines plugging away and hoping for the odd goal. |

Agreed, at 2-0 most teams rollover and call it a night , at least they fought back and could of at least came out with a point.
I hope this gives them extra motivation against the Blues tomorrow because they will need it. |

Agree. The Blues are an excellent team so the Jackets will have to work that much harder tomorrow night.
When you are being outshot as bad as they were and dwon two it would have been easy to see that game really get out of hand. Instead they got a good break from Letestu and fought back in the 3rd. That's a good sign and evidence that Richards has these guys listening and playing hard. |

Thanks. Agree with you on all points. In fact, I plan to watch Umberger closely over the next few games to see what is up with him. He isn't playing real well and looked almost disinterested at times. Is he hurt? Not that I know of but I'm going to be paying attention to him for sure.
As for Mason, he should be a RFA still as he will only have five years service time. That being said if the Jackets want to keep his rights I think they have to submit a qualifying offer to him and that means a minimum 10% raise on his $2.9MM salary. I'll have to review the info I have to see how accurate that is but I believe that is correct. I also don't know where he stands as far as arbitration rights.
Brassard and Johansen are real important guys. They are the most skilled forwards on the roster and need to play well if this team is going to improve offensively. They have a bunch of guys that are capable of 15 - 20 but those guys are better than that potentially. |

Umm, the Blue Jackets have only one less point than does Edmonton thus far, not sure there is any validity to your comment. I realize the Oilers are full of promise with all their 1st overalls, but lest you forget, 30th, 30th and 29th last 3 seasons for Edmonton.
It's always entertaining when Oilers fans admonish or trash talk other teams in light of their own ranking over the past few seasons. |

All I can say is "GO BOB!". You guys got a great net minder there. Trading him was the best thing we could have done for his development and I am thrilled that he has done good things for you. |

Totally agree, any rookie that can win 28 games by January has huge potential. His record in the KHL this year at 18w 3 losses I believe has me believing the best is yet to come. |

Good stuff, Glen! I've read your first two blogs and really enjoy your writing. Look forward to your blogs in the future. - Nucker101

I wonder if this will turn into another regrettable "what if" for Flyers fans. As in, what if we didn't throw so much money at Bryzgalov and what if we had given the Bobrovsky kid more of an opportunity. Of course Bryzgalov has been pretty good this year and looked good last night against the Rangers so maybe not. |

I am hoping it will be similar to how Calgary got Kiprusoff or how Phoenix got Bryzgalov. It really is up to Bobrovsky to see what he can make of it. The things I like about Bob remain the same as when he was a flyer. He is a total team player, he works as hard as anyone, he is a first class person and from a skills point of view he just needed a little fine tuning, say with his glove hand on high points shots. He seemed to have trouble with point shots and sometimes also outplaying himself down low. He has tremedous side to side speed and strength and it looks like he has started to mature and his great athleticism is starting to show, ie he looks cool and confident in the shootout which used to be a bit of a challenge for him. |

Hard to say at this point. Bryz has been confident and focused which is more than we can say for the rest of the team. I'm just glad Bob is getting his shot as he was too good to sit behind Bryz. |

And Philadelphis did get back a couple of draft picks as well; including a second if I recall correctly. Once Philadelphia committed to Bryzgalov it was only a matter of time before a trade had to be made and for the Flyers to extract as much value as possible from Bobrovsky. Similar to the position Vancover is in with Luongo/Schneider except with the Canucks it's the kid replacing the vet. |

Thanks Pete. It's the new moniker I bet. I was actually surprised as many of the boys did notice that I was over here now. |

Umby hasn't been very good the past two seasons. I have a theory that he is gripping the stick to hard and trying to do too much. I think he is putting pressure on himself to be the offensive leader on the team. He is a great complementary player, but doesn’t have the skill to ever be the go to guy in my opinion. |

Could be though I could see the pressure on him this year to be the guy to be even higher without Nash. He has been a solid offensive contributor in the past but he's being paid quite well and needs to be better for this team. |

Jackets were victimized by terrible goal tending tonight. Bobrovsky was just awful. |
