Also, Lupul is a great contract length and price.

$5.25 is lower than Grabo who plays on our second line. If he can repeat his success with Kessel, it will be a very cost efficient contract.

I still believe this team is rounding out nicely. With the subtractions of Connolly and Lombardi, our top 9 look fairly competitive. At least enough to keep it close every night.

Oilers troll, signing in.

Edit to add:

I really hope he works out for the leafs. If only because I feel bad for leafs fans.

Do you think the threat to lose Kessel is there? I'll be curious to see if he resigns early or tests his value on the open market. The states don't show a lot of Leafs games, so I didn't know how his attitude is in TO.

No one knows what Kessel's feelings towards Toronto are. It's rare if you catch him in an interview. It honestly seems like he would prefer to be in a quieter market. Unless i have got him completely wrong... Hard to tell with him.

He's played the "pay me or I'm gone" song before so his feelings toward Toronto are likely very dependent on his feelings towards his contract.

Yeah, that's how he was in Boston very quiet. You could never get a grip on how his attitude, he has a ton of talent but sometimes I wonder if he would prefer playing in a Florida, Phoenix, Dallas type of market.

Carlyle won't be around for long now that Burke is gone. He's not a players coach and since the players dictate how long a coach sticks around Carlyle will be out soon enough. Gone are the days of tough coaching and screwing a player over by benching him. You can bench Ovechkin all you want now, but when his contract is up in 10 years do you think it really matters? Lupul is a great player and there are always risks. Past performance and injury history together don't predict the future for anyone.

Agreed....

This idea that Kessel doesn't like playing in Toronto is completely media driven based on him being a quiet introvert.

It is hard to tell but honestly if you don't read the papers, isn't every market the same?

Ya we will have WAY more media ppl around the team and in the locker room but if you are quiet and give crap interviews they leave you alone.

look for Elliot Friedman's interview with him last year. Market doesn't bother him. He simply doesn't care about media. Really likes it in Toronto apparently.

As with every other coach, how long he stays will depend on how well the team performs.

That makes sense. It's easy to not pay attention to that stuff. TSN and Sportsnet are usually pretty fair to these guys, so honestly just don't read the paper or watch mainstream news coverage of the Leafs. It's those morons who know absolutely nothing and will dig up any crap for a story
