Biggest question is the defensive depth. Who is out there for the Bruins to get? I like the idea of trading Caron. Can anyone identify a team who'd be interested in that type of swap? Frankly, the Bruins basically need a Caron-level player on defense. A fringe NHL talent with room to grow.

i would imagine that caron does not have a ton of trade value.
would have to be a package. i honestly think the Bs brass would rather see chris bourque take that 3rd line roll.

That may be true, but I do think Caron has shown enough to net a 7th d-man in return. I'm not talking about a top 4 guy. More like a younger version of Zanon or Shane Hnidy. A player with obvious flaws but who is capable of playing NHL minutes if an injury hits. I have to believe Caron can bring that back, no?

I could see the leafs taking that cap hit of Thomas' in a trade and letting his contract expire at the end of it for a draft pick.

I can't see why they wouldn't do it. Free draft pick to just use up some cap space for a year, and Boston gets wiggle room to upgrade themselves to make another cup run.

Well if Fistric is any indication a 3rd round pick will net you a steady bottom pair, no frills guy.

I don't see them flipping Caron, but certainly not out of that realm of value.

According to capgeek B's are about $750k under the cap without Savard LTIR. Can't see them trading a draft pick just to get rid of the salary. More likely to see him moved to someone who wants him next year for future considerations. That said I don't expect anything to happen with him.

a shortened season should benefit rene, right? such a letdown when the chubby girls with bad skin take his place.

Yeah I think our single biggest issue will be between the pipes. I think Rask is up to the task but we shall see. He's not the wall that Thomas has been for us the last few years but he's no slouch either.

It's Tuukka Time in Boston !

Why have I been seeing other fans (for some reason, especially Buffalo fans) saying they think Boston slips hard this season without Thomas?

Every time I've seen Rask play he's been stellar. If you look at his stats page in hockeydb, all his stats look great.

Rask for Raycroft was 1000x worse than Kessel for Seguin+Hamilton

At least in that second trade we got someone usefull back.

I loved this Darren Haynes guy, 'cause guess how many times before that day he's been at a rink watching the Bruins or at the Garden watching a game? Zero. Not once. But hey, he probably did some track and field in college so he would know.

Because my fellow fans are an incoherent, delusional, eager bunch. Please, forgive them. We've been cursed so long, we are starved for an inkling of winning feeling.

Placate them, they haven't had the right to trash talk for a couple years, it hurts. We'll get our time in the spotlight again, and while I can patiently wait for that, it's tough for others.

perhaps I shouldn't have used the word issue, Rask is fine, and I'm sure he'll have no trouble picking up the reins. I'm not concerned about his ability so much as his health, with regular ice time it'll make work working the kinks out of his game that much easier. The rest of the team is solid, pretty much the same team we won the cup with, so the only difference is the man in the mask on full time duty.
