Only one more sleep til Christmas!

And it's cool to see the Talbot-Couturier-Voracek line reunited. Let's see how Laughton looks in the lineup!

A few things i noticed in practice last night...

1. Meszaros looked pretty comfortable out there, although at times it was noticable if you were paying attention.

2. Luke Schenn is a big boy..a few suspect passes right out in front of the net that I didnt like when Timmo was open in the corner.

3. Foster skated well and has one hell of a shot even for "taking it easy."

4. It looked as if the five guys on the ice were skating as one unit instead of the forwards pushing up which will promote better team defense.

5. Ruslan Fedotenko looked very good, obviously better conditioning than some others because of his ice time in Europe.

6. Sean Couturier's shot looked deadly last night as well as his shootout attempts.

7. Grossman and Coburn looked very good together with there defensive responsiblities. Grossman looked to be skating fine.

8. Rinaldo looked great on the PK unit he was practicing with.

9. Ilya Bryzgalov looked phenominal in net. Very relaxed and poised. He was not second guessing things and made some great stops in the 5 on 0 rushes... although at the beggining of the session he had a couple stick handling errors but im assuming that was nerves, he looked great the rest of the night.

10. Scott Laughton did not look out of place. Kept things simple and he seemed focused considering the atmosphere last night.

The Flyers may struggle within their Division. The elimination of inter conference play makes it highly unlikely that four teams from the same Division can make the playoffs. Also, the Islanders will be tougher to play (I think that may actually be a true statement this year).

I just don't believe Holmgren will wait very long before doing a major deal for a Dman.

I dont think they will struggle, but I also dont expect complete domination. I see them as the 4-5 seed and, like last year, with more points than the 2-3 seeds

one of the sporting magazines picks the flyers as the 6th seed and ultimately has the finals as the canucks and penguins with the penguins winning the cup

Of course they do..

Not just because they added a few big names, but I think the team to watch out west is the Wild. They have a very complete team.

I doubt we'll see a major deal for a defenseman happen before the trade deadline, if at all. The type of defenseman the Flyers need is very rarely available during the Season.

Not only that, but that same type of d-man is at a premium at the TDL. Have to pay an arm an a leg.

My memory may be faulty here, but I vaguely remember a different outcome to that series. I also kinda sorta recall that the clinching game was broadcast by... oh yes, the very same television network that is now so collectively unaware of the outcome that the commercial made it on the air without anyone noticing the mistake

And when they are it costs an arm and a leg...

I doubt we'll see a move on D. We currently have like 8 guys that can play at the NHL level under contract.

The biggest move I could see this team making this year is bringing Jagr back at the deadline. But even that requires us being in playoff contention, Dallas being out of playoff contention, and Jagr being healthy.

Sure hope they don't burn a year off of Laughton's ELC to be the 4th center during a shortened season.

Here's a question:

Would they keep Couturier as 2nd line Center and bring Briere back at Wing to have Laughton as the 3rd line Center?

I could see a Jagr move, if Dallas is struggling at the TDL. However, if the defense has issues, a defense move wouldn't be surprising in the least.

I think I'm the only non-Flyers fan who will ever say I can't wait to see some Hartnell-Hijinks on the ice. Cannot wait for Sunday.

I wouldn't be surprised. I think that now that the Laughton box has been opened, he'll be staying put for awhile.

in hindsight, to trade richards/carter and not get a dman out of it is a fail. when you are making a major course correction, you have to address a pressing need. w/ pronger and kimmo at that point....
