if it were sidney crosby instead of iginla, this press conference would be the smartest move anyone ever made..
all the reporters would be waiting around like it was christmas day, barely able to hide their boners.
but since its calgary and its jarome, this is such a bad idea. |

No, it's a bad idea regardless of the player. If Feaster actually believes that by doing this nobody will ask Iginla about his contract all season he's wrong.
If it's not to unveil a contract extension it's the dumbest idea ever. - whipper334
Agreed. |

Does anyone else think that the only conceivable reason for doing this would be to generate a potential market for Iginla?

You don't need a press conference to do that... 29 phone calls and every GM with interest would know that he's available. |

At the end of the day he will get signed. Now whether or not he's traded at the deadline is another story. |

dont be mad at me lol, what are you guys gonna do with him?? you plan a cup win in the next 5 years? high optimism (if so i applaud)
its so sad when great players like Sundin, Alfredsson (not too lat i guess) never win the big one, nobody wants to be Karl Malone...but at least he had Jordan blocking his way, the hockey players just have a misguided sense of loyalty blocking theirs |

Make no mistake. If the Flames are out of it by deadline day Iggy will be gone. |

i mean i hope so, when you've given a team 15 years of your life you dont owe them anything anymore its the other way around at that point, one would think
plus he's not too old it'll definetly help you guys fill the cupboards |

I think they'll say that they're not addressing a new contract 'til after the season. The press will hit them with all kinds of possible scenarios. The answers will be vague. Stuff like "My intention is to win the cup this season in Calgary".
Bottom line, If the Flames fall out of it, he'll be moved as a rental to a contender of his liking. After the season, he'll have a decision to make. |

According to the Fan960 Colin, you are right. How stupid...fck Feaster. - whipper334
WTF!! This is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. 1/ Iggy will come out saying Calgary is home and all he ever knows & he wants to win a cup & play on a good team & he feels Calgary have a good team & excellent chance for the playoffs & he's excited. 2/ Iggy will say he understands if the team needs to rebuild & go a different direction & whatever is best for the team is good with him 3/ Media are going to give scenario of Flames coming out the gate like the last 2 seasons & potentially be out of playoff contention by mid March, then what, will Flames start a rebuild after being out of the playoffs for 4 straight years, Feaster ill pipe up, no we are not into a scorch of the earth rebuild. Our object is to win with the team we put together today. Then we will get to hear about all the big changes the Flames have already done & feel they are on their way to building a winning team. BLah Blah Blah!
What a bunch of bunk. All they have to do is let this team play and after the first 15-20 games, we're gonna know how this goes down. Why paint themselves in a corner where someone is going to look stupid? Why not wait to see how Iggy & Hartley work together? I have seen these players talk the talk & I can see Iggy saying all the right things about Hartleys systems but in reality cant stand his coaching style. I have heard the words "Intelectual Honesty" out of Feasters mouth, now its time to see some of this intelectual honesty. I gotta say, there are things I like about Feasty boy, especially his approach to drafting & the early rewards we have already seen, but there are definite things that really piss me off with him! |

You know they've been paying him millions and millions and millions of dollars right? I know what you are trying to say, but the Flames should do what's best for the franchise, not Iginla. Whether they feel that means keeping him or trading him remains to be seen. |

I really don't think they will do Iginla and most of the flames fans like that. If Iginla goes, it will be when his contract runs out. If anything, the flames can get a draft pick and a prospect for allowing a team to talk with him before July 1st. I guess I better get a ticket for the last home game of the season, just in-case it's Iginla's last!!!!
Kipper being traded at the deadline is what I think will happen if the flames are out of it.

Ya we all know how this thing is going to go....but it's not like it's the end of the world if they do it. I think they are just trying to go ahead and get it over with now, rather than have every reporter every day asking Jarome the same questions over and over and over. It's going to be tough to stop those questions, but at least they can try.
