Back to Subban though a way better younger tougher defenseman I think he would be perfect here if GArth does not get cold feet

I hope not. Isles have enough trouble with keeping the d healthy. They need to do better than Radek.

Only 48 games... you do what you have to do.

The team will need depth for this sprint.

I always liked Radek!!!

Even if he only plays 25 games.

I would think Montreal would want either Strome or Reinhardt for starters...

What do you think it would take to get Subban???

I don't think Montreal wants to trade him... he will be resigned.

I like him as well. I would take him as a 7th dman. I'm just hoping for someone better for the top 4. I'd love Subban but I doubt that will happen.

Yes, staple tweeted that the NHLPA rejected the league when they wanted to extend the time period for signing or something like that

Edit**

As for the "Justin Schultz" CBA rule (four years from draft year to sign a contract), #NHL proposed extending that time, and PA rejected it.

Which means #Isles pick Anders Lee could still become a FA this summer.

I have been called a lot of names for becoming familiar with the CBA and having a copy of it on my desktop. Let me add something to the thread on Anders Lee that may put an end to the speculation on if he still is Islander property now and if he stays at Notre Dame for his senior year, the 2013-2014 season.

From page 20, paragraph 4 of the 2005 CBA:

If a player drafted at 18 or 19, who had received a Bona Fide Offer in accordance with Section 8.6 (a) (ii) above, becomes a bona fide college student prior to the second June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft and remains a bona fide college student through the graduation of his college class, his drafting Club shall retain the exclusive rights of negotiation for his services through and including the August 15 following his graduation of his college class.

Basically, if the Islanders (from 8.6 (a)(ii) on page 18 of the 2005 CBA) made a bona fide offer to its claimed player of a Standard Player contract on or before June 1 of the calendar year next succeeding the Entry Draft they would retain exclusive rights thru August 15 following the graduation of his college class. If they did that...and WHY wouldn't they......they have satisified the requirement for him to remain their property.

Now, as Staple said here that part of the new CBA did not change it appears to me that Anders Lee would remain Islander property until August 15, 2014 if he stayed in school to play his senior year and graduated with his class.

Even if he were to opt out of school the end of this season he would, according to what I have read in the 2005 CBA, still be Islander property.

a healthy Radek Martinek would be a good fit for the NY Islanders.

- Dee Karl

Too bad a healthy Martinek is a myth!

The guy is the best positional d-men we have had on this team in almost 2 decades.... but relying on him to fill a roster spot for 48 games is like expecting DP to win the Vezina.. sure I guess its possible.... but its never gonna happen.

X at this stage he seems to be a 7th dman at best. With his concussion and injury history I'm not sure why he is still trying to play?

But even as a 7th... what's the point, we have a 3 or 4 7th's in Bridgeport. At this stage Id rather Campoli come back as a 7th, or Wishart play as the 7th.

The guy can play, he's really talented, Problem is he was built in the same Glass factory as DiPietro.

These 2 guys alone were HUGE factors in us leading the league in man games lost over the last 5-6 seasons.

I cannot argue at all X. He would be one of the last players I brought in even as a 7th dman. If I'm Radek I would call it a career. He's not going to get that big payday. It's not worth it. Even DP is the money worth all the injuries?

There was hype around Martinek? Don't get me wrong, when he's healthy he's a steady positional defenseman, but he's more the guy who just does his job that you never notice out there rather than a player you hype up to your fan base.

As far as him coming back to the Isles...I figured something like this is what they'd end up doing. It's a cheap, familiar, and relatively safe option, which is the type of move that has Garth Snow and Charles Wang written all over it. I don't know much about Visnovsky's game, but I'd guess with Martinek you get a pretty big drop off in offense but a slight gain in defense, so...not quite a wash but closer than if you're putting Ty Wishart in that spot. The move doesn't do a single thing to excite the fans, but "effective PR" and "Snow and Wang" have never been synonymous terms. If it was GM UIF, I think I'd keep Marty around as a camp invite as a fallback option but still look to make a bigger splash somewhere.

I read an article yesterday that Montreal migh thave to trade him as they are strapping for money. I think it will take a pick and a prospect for him. Maybe two. The Islanders have a lot of prospects to offer so I think that would be great
