It is a size issue. My buddies kid is a tender prospect. He was at NHL camp, and they told him, if he was 6' tall, they would offer him a contract. Because he is only 5'10" he is too small. No matter how good he is. NHL scouts are now told, no tenders under 6'....they said he would get run over by the giant forwards of todays game..

It's so ridiculous... 2 inches of height isn't a huge difference at all, yet it can alter your life because of close-minded scouts.

that's tough. I admit though, I would have trouble believing in a goalie under 6"0. Not saying I wouldn't offer him a shot if he was good, but it would be tough.

Ya small forwards are given a small amount of leeway, defensemen under 5'11 are told to go on the rack to gain that one inch that magically makes them viable, and goalies? Ugg, these days you better be born 6'1+

And have a solid frame. My best friend has problems with the decision makers because despite being 6'3 he can't go above 165.

Yea, it's hilarious how 5'11 is small and 6'0 is decent/average. Perception is a funny thing.

I read a stat this summer somewhere that showed that players over 6 feet tall have better rate of NHL success in the first round, but after the first round the guys under 6 feet have had a better success rate. The best steals are usually the guys that have it all, except for one weakness that scouts are obsessed with(size or skating ability) that makes them fall short of becoming a top prospect.
