Good work as usual bill. As a father of two boys I'd advise you not to wait to take your boy to a game. I used to live in glenside near the trian station and started taking our first to games when he was two. They are definitely my favorite memories of going to games.

I have already taken my daughter (now 6) to two games and she enjoyed them tremendously. I "broke her in" by first taking her to Flyers practices at skate zone when she was about 3 so we could get the up close and personal. The noise, the speed, the sheer size of many of these guys is impressive even to a full grown adult, let alone a three year old kid.

So when we finally hit a game when she was 5 she was used to the game but was shocked and surprised by the pageantry (to a 5 year old anyway) and all of the other peripheral stuff that comes along during a real NHL game.

I definitely plan to take Benji soon. He can usually sit through a movie OK at a theater, so I'm hopeful he can get through a game if there's plenty of walking around time before the game and during intermissions.

The bigger problem has been that I'm always there in a work capacity, whether it's at a practice or a game. But I want to take Benji to a Flyers practice this season if and when the lockout ends, and go from there to see if he'd do well at a game yet.

He will sometimes sit and watch part of game on TV -- he's more impressed by the collisions than the goals, but he likes the goalie masks and uniforms, etc.

My first memories of hockey came at age 4 when my Father took me to the Stanley Cup finals in 1974 game 3 and game 6 (against my mothers wishes, she allowed it because they were Sunday games), sureal looking back and remembering the Stanley Cup and the Spectrum faithful going crazy

Great read, per usual, Bill! My now 9 year-old went to his first game as a 4 year-old. He made it through the entire game. His only issue was being a bit startled with the loud crowd reaction after the Flyers scored their first goal. He is now a firmly esablished Flyers fan and accompanies me to 4-5 games per year. One memorable game he attended was the Flyers/Canes pre-season game at the spectrum (the final all-NHL game played there) a couple of years ago. He now has a 2 year-old brother whom will I will be looking to get to some games in the next 2-3 years.

Sidenote: One more utterly annoying aspect of the lockout is having to deprive my son of live Flyers hockey. The greed and disrespect shown to the fans is disgraceful !! Shame on all parties involved !!

From what I saw of the depth on the Phantoms, I can't see how Noebels wouldn't help them, given everything that has been written about him and the lack of depth on the Phantoms.

I started taking my daughter to Phantom/Flyer games around the age of 4 or 5...Phillies soon followed.
As I have gotten older I don't go to as many games as I once did but my daughter still asks to go to games. So, I make an extra effort to make sure we at least have Daddy/Daughter night and attend a few games.

I remember going to games from my early teens to late 20's. Whatever game I went to, there was a father there with his daughter. Pretty amazing. I got to watch this little girl grow into an adult, and she was with her father every game. Not sure if it is a "normal" tradition but I think I great one to have.

I plan to take my kids when they reach 4 to 5. No interest in doing it before that age.

I took my son to his first Flyers' practice in 2004. We got to see Marcus Ragnarsson break Dennis Seidenberg's leg.

Wholly agree. Trying to explain this b.s. to my son has been most frustrating.

"But don't they like playing the games?" he asked me.

can anyone explain to me why the players would want to disband the union?

By decertifying, players can file an antitrust suit and request an injunction that would force the league to continue fully operating.

The players make money one way or another that way. Either the owners open the doors or the PAsues the owners for damages. Option two sounds like the death of the nhl
