I posted this on the last blog too. Everyone seems to have a different level of optimism and pessimism. For me I'd be more optimistic the less Bettman is involved. I wonder if the owners have had it with him and put their foot down about getting a deal done. It's probably no coincidence that things started moving along without Fehr and Bettman in the room.

Alright !! Its time to get excited !!! I am kinda hoping that Duncan Keith , Marian Hossa and Jamal Meyers benefit the most from the extended rest. I hope we are watching real on hockey Christmas.

Yep.
Don't know what the Hawks would be getting ready for, JJ. We still have guys signing contracts to play in Europe.

Maybe the PA and Owners are playing with the media right now. Some are negative, some are positive. There's a media circus surrounding this whole thing and maybe the two sides are getting some side laughs in while they nail this thing down.

JJ,

If the season were to start in a few weeks, what are the chances Hossa is in the opening night line-up? I hope he is, he is such a great player both offensively and defensively. I think having him out of the line-up for an extended period of time is going to hurt them, especially in a shortened season.

Anyone have an updated photo of Byfuglien? Wondering what he will be weighing on opening night. Failing that, anyone have a photo of JJ with his shirt off?

Nothing's guaranteed until names get signed.

Players being told to get ready is likely indicative of progress made Tuesday and Wednesday.

If these tweets accurately reflect where things are late this AM, then that is an unfortunate development.

High, he says he's ready to go but has no idea how he'll respond to contact, but otherwise feels 100%

Likely correct and like I said, too bad, things were looking positive. FWIW, It sounded as though the directive to get ready originated with the team, so there you go.

All that said, I wouldn't get too gloomy either. They have made progress and there are lots of people on both sides urgent to get a deal and have a season.

BTW, Lu might have some full bleed photos of Byfuglien's arse in his face from 2009 and 2010.1 you could ask him since he's not going anywhere.

That is great news for not only Hawks' fans, but fans of the NHL. Dynamic player to watch.

Of the above issues, the 10 year CBA seems highly negotiable, btw

Agreed, as bad as the hit was and his condition in the immediate aftermath, he has been a pretty good "healer" as far as head injuries go. Guy is also physically a stud, strong and very well-conditioned. He should be fine, but we'll see.

I'm more worried about the mental aspect than the physical. Even if he's completely fine with no symptoms, will he shy away from contact with the thought in the back of his head that another cheapshot artist is lurking? Another hit like that and he could be done for good.

Hard to say, for sure he will be keeping his head up as much as possible, he's played hockey for a LONG time, I don't think it will change his game

Is management permitted to contact players to suggest they be ready?

Dunno, good question, and dunno for sure if that's what happened. Some players are playing in the AHL, would there be no contact between management and those players? Hard to imagine not.

Also injured players have been working out under the supervision of the clubs. Again, certainly, there has been contact there.

But it is a valid question. What I heard is some Hawk players were told to get ready.

I suppose the message could have come through the player reps. Lets drop the puck!
