i think we've got two good ones in the system - plenty of time to let them D-E-V-E-L-O-P. especially with bryz and his 8 remaining years (although I don't believe he'll be here for more than 4 of those).

my gut says heeter has the bigger upside.

I don't know if it was in one of his blogs, or on Twitter. But I read a statement by Bill that said that B Schenn's defensive game is rapidly improving. That is good to hear.

Definitely. Now if we can just get a season together that would be great! Anyone hear how negotiations have been going this week? Any cause for optimism?

I find it interesting to read the comments regarding the Phantoms; what went wrong in games, who is underachieving, etc. I have been to all the games this year except for the two on The Rock. On the screen, you don't see the coaching. You don't see the facial expressions or actions behind the play.

For those who think sending Kessel to Trenton was a questionable move, I would counter by saying that his last name was the only thing that kept him in the AHL last year. Hopefully the demotion helps in the maturation process.

One last note for those looking for a goaltending savior: Cal Heeter=Rejean Beauchemin

Brayden Schenn's play in the minors has been inconsistent despite his 11 points in nine games.Seven of his points came over the course of two contests and he owns a minus-6 rating. "He and I sat down and chatted about what I need from him," Phantoms coach Terry Murray said. "I told him, 'This is a team that's looking at you. You're a young guy, and you have some NHL games behind you, and everybody's looking at you to lead the way.' And he's been much better lately." Schenn is projected to play in Philadelphia's top-six forward group when the NHL lockout ends.

This why I included this comparison in the blog the other day... Schenn (and Coutuier) stacks up just fine to most of what most of the other "big name" young players who are in the AHL during the lockout.

To date, Schenn has 11 points in nine games (4 goals, 7 assists). He's tied for 10th on the AHL's scoring leader board. Couturier has one fewer point (2 goals, 8 assists). Here's how that compares with some of the other top young forwards playing in the AHL:

* Jordan Eberle (Edmonton/Oklahoma City): 10 GP, 6 G, 9 A, 15 PTS
* Mikael Granlund (Minnesota/Houston): 8 GP, 4 G, 8 A, 12 PTS
* Gustav Nyquist (Detroit/Grand Rapids): 9 GP, 5 G, 6 A, 11 PTS
* Sven Bartschi (Calgary/Abbotsford): 9 GP, 4 G, 7 A, 11 PTS
* Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Edmonton/Oklahoma City): 9 GP, 3 G, 7 A, 10 PTS
* Ryan Johansen (Columbus/Springfield): 9 GP, 5 G, 4 A, 9 PTS
* Nino Niederreiter (NY Islanders/Bridgeport): 8 GP, 5 G, 4 A, 9 PTS
* Chris Kreider (NY Rangers/ Connecticut): 8 GP, 1 G, 4 A, 5 PTS
* Jacob Josefson (New Jersey/Albany): 8 GP, 4 G, 2 A, 6 PTS
* Magnus Pääjärvi (Edmonton/Oklahoma City): 10 GP, 2 G, 4 A, 6 PTS
* Alexander Burmistrov (Winnipeg/St. John's): 10 GP, 1 G, 5 A, 6 PTS
* Jakob Silfverberg (Ottawa/Binghamton): 9 GP, 2 G, 2 A, 4 PTS
* Mattias Tedenby (New Jersey/Abany): 8 GP, 2 G, 1 A, 3 PTS
* Mika Zibanejad (Ottawa/Binghamton): 9 GP, 0 G, 3 A, 3 PTS
* Adam Henrique (New Jersey/Albany): 8 GP, 2 G, 0 A, 2 PTS
